I don't get how all of the sudden one bad year totally depletes Andre's trade value when he has had 8 previous years of .350+ OBP and he never really had a chance to get into a rhythm last season.

He's 33 and not getting any better. Not saying he can't put up a better year than last year, but the trend has definitely gone down.

We had boxed ourselves in by saying we needed to trade an outfielder with the name of Eithier, Kemp or Crawford. Teams held out for the best of the three and the Padres got it. Had the trade with the Diamondback gone through who knows. If they wanted Dre did they want Kemp or was Dre their preference or where was management in all of this. With us now paying 6 of the 21 million owed Kemp each year how much is a team going to expect in exchange for Dre or CC? Would we have to throw in more prospects for them to accept us paying less? At this point Dre may be with us perhaps not starting or perhaps he will be the one platooning with VanSlyke in left. He provides backup to Joc in center and can play right so he is the most flexible at this point. CC is left field or nothing. The most important Dodger outfielder at this point appears to be Joc and everything else revolves around him

Did you watch him play at all last season? He was dreadful, with no power and zero ability to catch up to a good fastball.

He never had a real chance to get into a rhythm. Healthy all year, but like 350 AB's in like 130 games. In and out of the lineup, pinch hitting a lot, etc.

Few people have managed to completely forget about this past season.

    Ethier's gawd awful hitting.

    Kemp's selfishness and attitude.

    Mattingly was retained.

Hanley's injury prone self and atrocious defense

The fact that 94 wins and division titles mean jack shit if you can't win the pennant

I think the Dodgers should just send money to every team in BB. Then they will like us, and do deals with us when we want.
Especially to the Astros....maybe they will let us have Nesheck or Gregerson, either of whom we could have really used big time, more than anyone we did get, IMO. Certainly more than Kendrick as a replacement for the ML stolen base leader and super exciting player and vastly improved young Dee Gordon...oh yeah, now we have a RH middle of the order legit hitter...but remember we had that guy Kemp? But he was nasty in the clubhouse or some shit. But didn't we still win 94 games? Anyway? Didn't some guy Reggie and his manager fight in dugouts and shit, but they still had a great team? And all you "business" guys...get over the fact that every grown man has to sniff the other's jock and sing Kumbaya to be successful on the field. Sometimes, that's "business", too. Sometime's you can win 94 games like that; whatever gets you through the night, is all right. Is all right.
    Just reminiscing...old guys do that.
    Never mind.

Ethier has zero value...can't hit LHP and is regressing as he gets older. You don't throw away a reliable setup man for him unless you're a Dodgers fan.

    agree with chris
and it didn't seem to bother the rhythm of SVS, who played 32 fewer games and had 134 less PA's...

Forgetting who left us what new has come in to meet previously stated needs. SS taken care of, Bull Pen? Starting rotation? We had high hopes and expectations have we seen the improvements that we know hurt us with the Cardinals which are no bull pen and Kershaw having to go on short rest.

Where is Harper going to land?

It sounds like the Nats are tired of his ways. He isn't growing up anytime soon.

    Contract is up after 2015.

trade Ethier to Houston for Enron stock

trade Ethier to the White Sox for a pair of white socks

trade Ethier to Cleveland for LeBron's headband

trade Ethier to Detroit for a copy of the movie 8 Mile

trade Ethier to NY for a Derek Jeter gift basket

We have been getting bodies for the pen and only time will tell if the pen will improve but it's early still in the off-season and they can get more bodies. The big target of the FA class s of course is gone but there are a couple of guys still out there.

i still want Clippard. not only has he been good in the reg-season, but he's seen 6 games/6 innings in the post season and given up just 2 hits. it's crazy that the Nats are even looking to deal him, but good for us.

The rhythm thing is partly true but the atrocious job of hitting lefties has been a problem for years now. He had that one year when the we were debating about him and JP playing and he hit lefties well but that was in 2009.

Ethier had been an everyday player for basically the last 8 years though. SVS, not so much.

We also have to watch 25 man roster spots and players who have to stay in the majors. League and Wilson are two examples and until traded or released part of the bull pen equation.

Btw, according to all the reports out now it does seem as though there is 12.5 going to the fish regardless of Haren. That said you were right and I was wrong. Apologies for the other night.

So, now that kemp is gone and were left with Ethier who just a week ago voice his team first opinion about needing to start, what do you honestly believe his trade value is?
