What's Going On With Matt Garza?

First, it sounded like the Rangers would get him. Now there's word that the Dodgers among others have been asked to put in final bids?

Garza would round out the rotation instead of platooning the 5th spot, but I'm afraid of Ned going too far with prospects because that's what the Cubs will be looking for.

On the other hand, it's refreshing there's no word that Ned wants to acquire a washed out former Giant.

 

I expect Garza to be a Ranger next week

 

I think he'll be a ranger by the end of the weekend.they've already exchanged medical records which is a clear sign they're very close to a deal

 

I really hope the Rangers get him so the Dodgers don't overpay for an overrated, injury-prone, 3rd/4th starter.

 

I dont think ned will be looking to empty their top prospects on another starter unless he's controllable beyond this year, maybe gallardo.imo the more likely scenario is a bullpen arm and MAYBE a utility infielder

 

Whoever gets him will be drastically overpaying for a fringe 2 starter.

It makes me think that IF the dodgers grab another starter it's more likely it'll be peavy before garza.I also believe the sox would take spects that are further away from the bigs bc they're a long ways off in their rebuild yet, so in theory joc may not have to be included.

 

I wouldn't mind Peavy because he dominated the NL for all those years, but he's gotta stay healthy.

Cliff Lee and Peavy are probably the only SPs that would be available that I'd trade Joc for.

 

I'll say this, if im a team in need of SP then go get a guy that's just a salary dump and save your top prospects bc you'll need them this offseason.why?2 reasons, maybe 3.jeff samardzjia may very well be available, a kid that's young and on the brink of acedom.if the royals decide to.take another direction james shields may be available.BUT the big reason to hold onto your prospects is david price! Imo highly doubt he'll be back with the rays next seeing as.he'll be in line for roughly 12M

 

Not only do I think the Dodgers don't have enough for Price, but I also believe that they wouldn't want to trade their entire farm (which has been improved drastically this past year) for him. Now, if we're talking free agency, that's a different story; but the Dodgers' plan has been to win now while rebuilding the farm in the process. This is why we've seen the Dodgers come away with Hanley, Nolasco, arguably Gonzo/Crawford, etc. for free or for cheap if you will.

If Peavy's value is down because he's only made 1 start the past month or so and that he makes $14.5MM next season, fantastic. I think the Dodgers could get him for a reasonable package centered with Joc and a couple throw in spects. I just don't see a lot of takers for him due to him making a good amount a money next year. They reported that ARI, SF, and COL were scouting him, but I can guarantee the Dbags and the Rockies aren't going to want to take on that money next year.

 

There's not gonna be alot of suitors for price simply bc he's going to be.expensive both in terms of prospects and dollars and the dodgers are one of yhe handful of teams that could afford an extension....and think about this for another AT LEAST 4-5 years kershaw/price/greinke! Is there a top 3 better than that?

 

O and on a side note, smaller market teams could just trade for peavy for the rest of this.season.and.then trade him in the offseason and the new acquiring team would still be able to make a QO at the end of next season

 

It would be an unimaginably fantastic rotation, but it doesn't fit what the Dodgers want to do (and I agree with it). All of their work developing and improving their system would have to start all over if they traded for Price.

 

Joc sounds like he'll be a nice player, but I really don't think we'll have a spot for him. I know we all talk about fragile CC/Kemp, but those types of things even out over time. If the opportunity comes up where you can add an important piece by trading Joc, I'm for it.

 

I normally agree with building through the farm but that's a still young rotation that is built for the world series.if it was a pitcher in his 30's I'd say no way but it's an opportunity that doesnt come around often, plus they would then have multiple.years anchored around that spectacular rotation to build the farm back into shape.it's a dream scenario but.david price is one of the.few players I'd empty my farm for if I was already a contender

 

If you knew where the Dodger farm was 2 years ago, you'd understand. While I get your thinking, I don't think the Dodgers are going to want to start over again.
