I didn't understand the context of that quote until I read it on rotoworld. He means each pitch while on defense.

Yasiel Puig said after Wednesday's game against the Cubs that he was pulled in the fifth inning because he "wasn't ready on defense" for every pitch.
Puig did seem a bit lackadaisical in the early going. He said in the clubhouse later that he completely understood manager Don Mattingly's decision to pull him. The supremely talented 22-year-old outfielder should be back in his skipper's good graces and in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Padres.

Haha. Ned in the meeting tweasing his fucking mustache. He doesn't have a fucking clue.

Donnie Dum Dum giving Puig the talk yet "he'll be ready to play Friday"

Why not sit him Friday? Show some real discipline. Grow a fucking pair Dum Dum.

This situation seems to have been handled perfectly and what's done is done. What seems to have happened is that Puig was fatigued and letting it show on the field with some lack of preparation. Don probably told him he can't do that and that if he's gonna be tired, he needs to be hones and they can start someone else, no shame. I love how don made it as private as could be, it lets Puig know that don isn't gonna go on letting the media make a mess, and then reading Puigs quotes that he agrees and understands is just about the perfect thin you wanna read from him. Compare this to the torre/bowa and kemp situation which was a shit show, this looks fine. A perfect way for Puig to learn, and no real harm done meanwhile Puig gets a good lesson out of it. Props to both sides, things like this get me excited for the future wih them two

    Lol on the radio:
"So basically Puig looked like crap and had two horrible ABs"
    Sick of the media.
He drew a walk in his first AB

What I think is funny about the situation is that ESPN reported something along the lines of "Mattingly doesn't want to upset the veteran Dodger players". That's been a popular topic lately because I recall them talking about it on Sunday Night baseball even though we haven't really heard much about it. I think it's kind of lame if that's true. Maybe the veterans shouldn't have been in last place if they want to complain. The Dodgers turnaround is solely because of Hanley/Puig and every pitcher on the team not named Capuano or League.

We he really did strike out his 1st AB, he just got away with a horrible check swing on a horrible call. Regardless it seems to be nothing to do with the ABs.

Apparently on Dodgertalk, word is he "walked" out to his position instead of jogging or running like normal players do and has been the last on the field quit often. Ethier out there waiting for him to warm up and shit.
A fan said he did the same thing last nights game.

They also brought up the little glove flip the ball into the RF pavilion after the last out could've been called a HR because he didn't transfer the ball. LOL, I never thought about that...that'd be a fucked up call.

And for all of you Puig apologists, ask yourselves this. IF Puig was playing at say a Dee Gordon level or even SVS level, would you be protecting him then? Is it ok to ignore issues because he's a godlike baseball talent? I've seen other players get ripped for a lot less and especially a lot they cannot control. Dee Gordon made 3 errors in one game and hasn't been seen since. Not making errors isn't a choice, hustling to your position, not sliding on a double play and/or not trying to break it up IS a choice. Kemp gets called a million times for jogging home in a blow out game leading to his injury. He was lollygagging, a bad choice...but it was a blowout game.
Would you guys be ignoring it if we weren't a winning ballclub still or is it OK because we are winning? Would it be OK in April or May when we sucked?

This is the problem of learning in the big league level, this shit will happen.

I'm not a Puig apologist. Idgaf. Just saying they were ripping him for wrong reasons and they didn't even watch the game was my point. They were wrong about why things went down and what happened.

I don't think he should be left alone, but my defending him had more to do wih the media saying he is going to be for blame for playoff losses and that he is our biggest problem right now and that don NEEDS to act a certain way.

I have no reason to not trust Mattingly here, and I think he's handled it great, benched him and even Puig himself reacted in a way we can all say it's done with. I just think everything Puig does gets blown up when it doesn really matter in the large scheme of things, some of them do and they're looking like they're gonna get fixed, so that's good but I just wanna move on from people thinking he's this person bringing us down. I actually don't think anyone on here really thinks that, tbh

Yeah exactly, this is what gets me and what I usually argue against other then the actual actions. People just blow it up to fit wtv narrative they want and the headline grab is always bullshit and worse then it actually is

Puig understood why he was pulled.

Let's all move on. We're not ESPN.

In all honesty, I think most people think the opposite...including the press. They (and many here) think he's THE reason we are a great team again. Sometimes I think he gets too much credit.

Well many seem to think that it's because it's Puig...like it's racial or a vendetta or whatever. Ethier got a lot of press for being benched this same year and it was overblown. This also happened with Kemp a couple years ago with Torre and Bowa. It also was a huge story. It is what it is and I can't deny that many of us are very interested in what is going on "behind closed doors" if you will. Sometimes sports is a soap opera too....good or bad, ESPN has made it that way. NASCAR has become the same way...driver feuds on and off the track are big stories. Sports are like that nowadays as frustrating, unfair, or misinformed as it may be at times.

I think this also because if they didn't think he was so great, they wouldn't be talking about him.

What I don't like is him being portrayed as this monster. He doesn't hit the cutoff man and people are running around with their heads cut off. He takes a pic with a sick fan and gives him a bat and no one cares.

Just a young kid learning the ropes. Nothing to see here. One thing we know Puig overall goes balls out and wants to win. That's all that matters.

Well of course this matters, just like Ethier and Kemp. The media didn't make a stink about Hernandez this season being a twat, or Navarro when he shit the bed as a Dodger and was called lazy and shit.

I really think a few of you are actually overblowing what the media is saying too. He's not portrayed as a that bad a guy, they point out his flaws(as they should) and the next sentence praise the shit out of him(as he deserves). To me they overblow both sides...as news people do about everything except black on white murder. ;)

And like Lyons said today...when you play balls out to his level, anytime you don't hustle it actually stands out much more than a guy that plays less than all out.
