I am going to be very pissed off if another team hires him and we remain stuck with Donnie Dum Dum. Offer him the Bench coach job and hire Brad Ausmus to coach third base. Even the fucking Mariners are smart enough to interview Wallach.
Is this Logan's Run, NZ ? You mean "old school" managing, or "old school" type players ? because the last few WS Champs have been old school guys, all the way...it's still pitching, hitting, catching, and throwing the ball straight that gets you there...if you mean DBB as old school, please remember that he is really more a "sky pilot school" or Bizarro Universe type . Bring back Jeff Kent. Everyone would be hating each other, fighting, etc., but some hard nose BB is what we need, not pampered prima donnas. Some of the best teams had more internal strife than the US Govt. Billy Martin told me... WTF do we have to lose whatever we do? We've been losers so long now, anything is a better shot than the stagnant fen we have now. Maybe time for a woman manager...Mary Hart's a loyal Dodger fan. Or Meathead.
So you want Bill James as the manager? Or maybe Jonah Hill? What's new school? For what it's worth, Wallach is a Titan. Mouse is also a Titan.
I want someone totally new, unheralded and fresh. I don't want a fucking Torre clone. I don't want a third base coach who's been around the game a long time and plays the same boring game day-in-day-out. I want someone young with an understanding of modern statistics who can implement them in a game situation or when filling out a lineup card. I want someone who learns from their mistakes and takes accountability. I want a dynasty manager to run this team for years to come. I essentially want Donnie, but with a brain. Wallach doesn't cover many of those bases for me, unfortunately.
You need to wait 10 years for that. Most of the recently retired players are still old school. Sabr and the stats heavy analysis didnt came around until 2004 or so, so all the guys that grew up with the old school mentality wont be any different than Torre or DBB. We need AJ Ellis to retire and then become a manager.
^That is the trend nowadays, Alex Cora is a favorite for the Mariners job too so that could be filled real soon too.
