I figured we should get the ball rolling on a new minor league/prospects thread.

It's not as if any of these names are really new to us, but it's nice to get a refresher on some of the prospects to watch this upcoming season:

The Mets need young arms, which is virtually all we have. A good GM might kick the tires on a David Wright since we cannot offer 150+ million and commit to 7 years for a bat right now. Payroll is already lower than last year. Why not look into it?

I wouldn't say zero hitting. Here are guys that I think can be solid contributors:

    Scott Van Slyke
    Alfredo Silverio
    Kyle Russell
    Alex Castellanos
    Gorman Erickson
    Angelo Songco
    Tony Delominco

He probably meant a good GM doesn't sign shitty players to multi year deals.

OR we could just grow a sack, trade for Wright, move Uribe to 2B, not have signed that POS Ellis, and won a division.

Oh got it. Ellis is a plus defender and I don't trust a Dee and Sellers dp combo.

To be honest, those are all 4th-5th OFs, backup catchers, backup 1Bs, with the exception of Castellanos maybe become a solid contributor.

Not to mention they are all pretty old for there league, from the top of my head. They might put up good number in the minors last year at the ages of 23-25 but theres a damn good reason no one has written anything great about them being solid contributors. Theres also a reason why whenever you see our top 10 specs by national writers, Dodger writers, or anyone, its almost always 10 pitchers and zero hitters; And considering that a lot of the pitchers that are in our top 10 are relievers, it just shows how bad our hitting in. Everyone can agree a hitter is more valuable than a reliever, so just shows that with a good amount of relievers written as our top specs, our hitting is pretty bad in the minors.

From a financial standpoint, it's not that bad of a gig. We would be off the hook if he was a bust and not worth that 16M tag. The attention would turn to would giving up specs for a possible rental be worth it.

Since everyone hates Mark Ellis being our 2B, lets hear what is a better option to play 2B for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2012? And a realistic one.
