Anderson for 1 year is ok... Hopefully he's better fit for a full season this year and doesn't teater out in the 2nd half again. He's a good 5. But we still need 2 pitchers better than Anderson to be signed... if we get that done, great.

    This.

If they only add Greinke or Price, then they feel pretty good about Ryu, if they add a mid-rotation starter as well, we'll know either something is up with Ryu or Alex Wood is moving to the bullpen (a move I wouldn't oppose entirely).

I mostly agree, he's fine for a year and he should be stronger in a second full season.

I don't get the dislike from many posters. He was signed to be a #5, it wasn't his fault Ryu and McCarthy got sand in their vaginas and he had to be a 3. Look at it this way, he signed to be a 5 and he gave us 180 innings with a sub 4 ERA and a 10-9 record. How many #5's in the league do that? Most teams would shout with joy if they had a 5 like that, and this forum wants to bkitch.

The only part of 96's post I have a problem with is saying we need to sign 2 pitchers better than him. Maybe...maybe not. I'll take a repeat of his '15 season as a #5 and be happy as a fucking clam. BUT, if he returns stronger he could be better, with the possibility of being much better, and maybe we only need 1 pitcher better, OR maybe he's really going to be good enough to be a 3. We'll have to wait and see.

Bottom line is I feel good that he's a Dodger next season.

Yeah... I'm just having a hard time relying on Ryu and or McCarthy this upcoming year... which is why I say 2 more starters.

It's not just what the team thinks of Ryu, but what they are feeling with Wood as well. Many people don't realize or remember that Wood was looking like a surefire #2 or better a year ago when he had a sub 3.00 ERA through his first two years in the bigs. If the team feels he is still that player, then they really may only look to add one top of the line starter. If they think his regression in 2015 is more in line than his 2014 and '13 were, then they may look to add a solid #3 to step in front of Ryu and McCarthey.

Oh, I def agree we need two more starters. Just not sure they both have to be better than Brett.

yeah, wood is a bit of a wildcard
another guy that should have been working on things this winter
if he can somehow rediscover his mojo, it would (obviously) be a huge bonus

Kimbrel to Boston. And uh I hope Boston is getting more for the package rumored to be giving up.

    Anderson coming back huh.

That's cool. Gotta have those bullpen taxing, five inning scrubs hanging around at $15,800,000!

Man, that was a haul that the Padres got back. I understand the desire to load up the bullpen, but with no money for the Int'l draft this past year and next, that could really hurt the Sox down the line.

Reports are that he is throwing right now at 90 feet and there was a report out of South Korea that he has trimmed down some more fat and added more muscle as he is hitting the gym more. That's about all you will get until the first week of Spring Training as it will all be messages from his people until he gets in front of management.

The top 2 guys the Sox gave up were pretty well blocked, especially Guerra, but you're right they could have done better. If it was an either or situation, they would have done better to get Tyson Ross. (I don't know that that was the case)

Even with those guys blocked, they paid WAY too much for Kimbrel. They really need to address their starting rotation first and that group of guys probably could have gotten them a solid pitcher.

Jeremy Hellickson has been traded from the D'Backs to the Phillies for MiLB'er Sam McWilliams. Nothing major, but one thing the D'backs lack is solid pitching. They must feel confident that they have someone or will get one to fill out a rotation that is an arm or two away from being a threat to compete in the division.
