If the 'Raiders to Vegas' idea gains some steam I wonder if the NFL sweetens the deal to help the Chargers stay in San Diego, and to help the Raiders move to LA. The NFL doesn't want a team in Vegas but the Raiders are the one team that would have the balls to challenge that. With all the stadium funding issues sports teams face, the NFL would need to defend turning down a privately funded billion dollar stadium because of sports betting while actively promoting games in London where sports betting is also legal.

I actually would prefer the Raiders got to Las Vegas (closer to me!), but hard to see the NFL be ok with that. It is a stupid reason since I am pretty sure that Vegas is no longer run by the mob, so the real fears should be gone, especially in our current technological age. Though what I was seeing is a public/private stadium which is what I believe it would have to be since it is a public college that would share the stadium. I'm not getting super into that rumor because that is one that the NFL would squash with such ease, especially if the Chargers really do stay in SD. I would think that a Vegas team would be one of the wealthiest and strongest teams in the game as the luxury box prices would be through the roof and probably every game would be sold out. The Raiders of Sin City has a fun ring to it.

Given a straight up choice, they'd probably take the Raiders. But turning down NFL money to keep the Chargers, only to turn around and pay more money to bring in the Raiders? Sounds like a sell that would have people conflicted. The Chargers do have a following in San Diego. It would be an odd dynamic to bring in a team that the current Charger fans hate, and being a smaller market to begin with I don't know how it works out with a sports fan base with such odd loyalty lines.

You are correct. I thought I read a privately funded stadium, but the initial idea is in fact a private/publicly funded stadium.

As far as luxury box seats, those aren't even for sale. Those are for Venetian high-rollers.

15yrs ago, before the digital age took off the league could play the innocent role with Rozelle and Tagliabue moaning.
But that's over now since they're in bed with off-shore gaming and gambling firms and sites, their players are partnered with FanDuel, etc.
All stuff we know to be true.
All the professional leagues are making deals in this regard, including them, slowly but surely trying not to be left out.
Davis picked the right partner in Adelson, the 28 Billion dollar man.
Adelson is 80+ years old and knockin on heaven's door...he's pretty much doin all this for fun. Smh
Not much to lose for him.
Don't think it'd surprise many close to the situation that if at some point in that struggle the owners would just say " wet my beak a little, Sheldon, and let's make it happen "...
...which they'd rather not of course.
So yeah perhaps what you have there in that scenario is where Davis would say " get me a good deal in LA and I'll leave it (Vegas) ", as you pretty much said above.

Vegas public money seems like it would be way different than a normal city's public money. Probably could just tack on a hotel tax that would be paid for in 3 weeks.

Vegas makes too much sense for the next city to house a sports franchise. Those crowds would be raucous, all those coked out folks on the tail end of a 3 day bender, some crazy shit would happen in the stands. The one thing I do feel should be done, if a team moves to Las Vegas, in any sport, no gambling in the local sport books on that team. That is my guess of what the NFL should ask for and the city should agree to it.

woooo hopefully the Chargers can work out a deal in SD long term now. Although the Raiders still got fucked because the Chargers are getting a whole year to make the final decision, so we're still sitting here in limbo. Chances of coming to LA just opened up a bit more though. :)

The next thing after the stadium should be working out a deal for some sort of rapid transit system from the strip to the airport. With the way traffic IS so shitty, why they haven't done that yet is beyond me.

There's been a rule at Caesar's that they don't take bets on the Celtics, because one of the owners of Caesar's also has a stake in the Celtics. I could definitely see Vegas making a deal like that if that was the last thing standing in the way. The city would stand to make a lot of money having an NFL team... and the Raiders no less.

Ok, so for some reason I thought the airport was much further from the city than it is. Now I am really puzzled why it always took so long to get to and from that location... and do they have a subway? Seems like if that is what I am looking at, it would be a very easy fix to avoid insane traffic on gameday.... At least from the hotel folks.

The city should do that with or without an NFL team. FWIW, they do have a monorail system that runs along the backside of the strip, starting north of the Convention Center and ending right behind the MGM (which is basically the location of the proposed stadium). I don't know why the monorail doesn't go all the way to the airport, it's really not that much farther to extend it. Although I lived in Las Vegas for a long time, I don't know anyone who has actually ridden the Monorail. Truth is the traffic in Vegas is generally pretty light if you stay off of the Strip - Koval and Paradise are usually good bets to get around, although they are small and large events can jam them up. Exploiting the monorail and foot traffic from the south strip and Hard Rock. Encouraged tailgating before the game. Gentrify some of the surrounding area which currently has a lot of 'pay by the week' apartment housing, so that people come early/stay late. It could work.

The main way in/out of the airport is to go south to the 215. It's not the most direct route, and if you are arriving at the wrong time you will be travelling up the one congested part of the 15 on a Friday night. The Strip itself is generally slow along with any road crossing it. If you take Paradise/Swenson to/from the airport it is definitely shorter and generally faster. But then it all depends where you are going... The Strip and UNLV are very close to the airport, downtown is not.

I dpn't know why, but if Rose is willing to switch sports affilliations,I see a spot for Pete if the Raiders move to LV.
