I definitely didn't mention this first, Fall Winslow did I'm pretty sure, but if we win the NLW, I think Corey Seager should be MVP.
The other teams have their own candidates, but considering the injury situation all year long, where we were in the standings, etc., I feel Seager was undeniably the rock who led us to where we are...
I usually don't think individual awards are the end all, but he is just overwhelming in what he has done.
    Anyone agree, or disagree?

I think he's been one of the 4 best players in the NL and definitely deserving of serious consideration. He won't win though. They'll give it to Bryant.

Thought it was hilarious how every show I watched on DVR today from MLB Network had the "hell no" attitude about Clayton in consideration for the CY.

It's one thing to say he shouldn't win, but to say he's not even in the conversation when he was barely passed in pitchers' WAR like 3 weeks ago? Gtfo.

I love MLB Now with Brian Kenny, but man they bring on idiotic guests. Like Maury, Steve Wilkos, and today a horrid "comedian" Gary Valentine who made a ton of horrible jokes and not one solid baseball thought.

Is Gary Valentine the guy who looks just like The King of Queens?

Yeah. Kevin James is his brother. Both were on the King of Queens. I didn't mind him in that show since they handed him a script of what to say. But watching him try his crappy original material was cringe worthy. Rosenthal, Pena and Sherman didn't even crack a smile once. Just so lame.

    late to the dance
but no way seager wins mvp
they have an award for rookies
so for a rookie to win mvp (or cy young)
they'd have to have an exemplary season, like winning the triple crown
    not impossible, just not likely
his average is there, but there are 20+ guys with more hr's and 30+ with more rbi
those are just a couple stats, but you get the gist
he'll win the roy easily, and get some mvp votes, and maybe -- just maybe -- get a nice piece of jewelry too

It's ridiculous to take him out of the Cy Young conversation. I feel like if he had missed the first two months of the season, instead of the last two, reporters would bring up his name like they are being edgy.

It's a shame he's missed time, he was on pace for an amazing season (even for himself). He's still the only player this year with more wins than walks. When his career is over, what's going to be amazing is not all the Cy Youngs he won but all the Cy Youngs he didn't win.

I don't really think there's any argument for Seager over Bryant

The fact that we are even having a serious convo about Seager for MVP in his rookie season...

    Quite happy :)

Do you think that there is any possibilty that Rizzo/ Bryant cancel each other out though? Kind of like who do ypu give the CY to on a team with CK/Greinke, both deserving, so Arrieta gets it.
Watching every game in such ( as Vinny says) an " improbable" season, you get this overwhelming sense he alone is more valuable than those two as a power unit...but you are probably right, it won't happen.

    Yeah...you're right.
But you kinda get into the theory of what " valuable" means, I guess almost every year. Just stats alone, a guy like Trout gets it every year.
But a team with specific problems and injuries like we have, have been priveleged to watch a kid perform like Seagar and catapult us to this place, at this time, should be an important consideration.
I'm thinking it my way, of course. But it has been done before, I believe, by Freddie Lynn and Ichiro. If you can count Ichiro as a real rookie.
    Just love to see it.

This becomes the question every year. The biggest award in sports, and no real criteria on which to vote. What makes a player valuable to a league anyway? Players are valuable to their team, that makes sense, but judging their value to the league doesn't. So the mystery surrounding this award continues. I think most people, most of the time, consider this a stats award. I'd prefer that just be the accepted criteria on which to vote. It doesn't have to be complicated.

I just looked on fangraphs and Kershaw is #2 among all MLB pitchers in WAR. Is that correct? That doesn't seem possible.

Corey's closer to Bryant offensively than Bryant is to him defensively, especially considering the everyday demands of playing the shortstop position.
His position and defensive excellence will get more consideration once he's no longer a rookie, for now I agree with @irish, though, they'll likely go with Bryant.
But all in all, Corey's a more valuable player considering the position he plays.
Just to add, though, Corey's OPS VS RHP is almost 40pts higher than Bryant's.
He won't win it, but personally, that won't stop me from calling him MVP

    Yup, agree 110%
Plus, no shame in being oh the 3rd best player in all of baseball..or arguably the 2nd

Definitely no shame in losing to Bryant for MVP. And at least Bryant plays a real position, and is no slouch on D... unlike Braun types who are being hidden in LF.

How do you figure this? A pretty simple pro-Corey argument is that their park adjusted offensive numbers are close and Corey is an elite defensive SS where Bryant is a good 3B.

I think Bryant wins it but there's certainly an argument for Corey.

Don't sleep on Bryant's 55 games in LF this year, 31 starts :D
Nah, but Bryant's got some value defensively with his ability to move around to different positions and he's good at 3B.
I always sort of forget about CK when it comes to the " best player in baseball " topic, generally lean towards an everyday player..specifically the one in OC.
But with CK's cloudy status concerning the bulging disc in his back, yeah, I think Corey has the edge at the present moment and a good shot at holding on to it going forward.
Maybe a 2A/2B type of situation, throw in Bryant as " 2C " or shuffle them all around to one's liking.
Trout is still the 1, but Corey is a legit threat to overthrow the king fish.
Extremely intrigued by Corey's career path and where it goes from here because while he has the value edge at SS right now, Corey could do what many think he'll do and keeping growing stronger, maybe putting on more muscle/weight and just slide over to 3B and hit 45-50 bombs with a .330 average...basically becoming a white Miggy in a few years.
Of course we'll see what happens with Lux at SS...
