If we are looking at a standstill, then I have to believe that the Dodgers are offering a deal centered around one major prospect(De Leon), packaged with players out of our top 10 which would make sense since we are not hearing other names getting thrown about. I may be off with that guess, but my feeling is that if a Calhoun, Verdugo or Diaz were also in the deal, we would not have seen this thing stagnate for as long as it has, plus we would have heard about them to get the other offers a bit higher. With De Leon being the only name floating about, it sure feels like he is the only thing of substantial substance being offered, I could be wrong, but that is what it feels like over here.

People aren't gonna wanna hear this, but the 2B isn't a necessity now, it is for October, but not for the first 4 months. This is a team that won 91 games and can return the same team if they so choose (or let Blanton walk, and replace him with a reliever that the difference will be negligible).

I talked about this before, but the quality and quantity of innings that they will get from Kershaw, Hill and Urias could make a huge difference. They combined for 260 1/3 innings last year, it isn't unreasonable to think that they will combined for 475+ in 2017 (200(or more)+120+150). Not to mention the depth with Stewart, Stripling, JDL, Alex Wood etc. Better than some of the options they went through last year.

And just like was said on MLB Tonight, the 2B market will expand to include SS around the deadline to include Escobar, Espinoza etc.

Or maybe Tampa will be more willing to talk about Forsythe when they are out of it, given that he is a soon to be FA.

Not sure I am going to agree with that. No GM goes into a season saying, well we filled 90% of our needs but we should have 100% filled by October. It is a need, so it will get filled. Now how MGT fills that need is probably where you were going with that statement. The Twins asking price may be too high and so MGT may believe they can run with Kiki at 2b and give Calhoun a shot in ST. Don't know, but it is still a need.

    You are playing word games.
If they dont get a Dozier they can easily just say that they have confidence that Kike is back healthy now and that Calhoun will come in after a couple of months as a reinforcement and that Segedin or somebody can also play the position so we are set.
That could all a lie that is more palatable to the fans than 'we will see whose available at the trade deadline' truth.

No kidding, that is a beyond dumb statement. Theoretically, they have the prospects to land both AND still hold onto our top 2-3 prospects at least(I like De Leon, but I have him outside of Bellinger, Alvarez and Verdugo) AND would still have one of the strongest farms in baseball after making those deals.

I was thinking the same thing. Right now the leverage goes to the Twins because they really dont have to make the trade. They know we want it and need it and asking price might be to high for us to do it now in the Nerds minds. I think they will go in house with Hernandez /Taylor and Johnson as 2b then in the OF Scotty/Puig/Ruff for the corners. CF Thompson/Pederson.

    RP committee of inhouse........

    Even push Kazmir in there...

Definitely not what we want and how we want but there goal is to stay competitive and keep payroll down for the luxury tax..

Getting back Jansen, Turner and Hill was our present. Even though we got more holes to fill in.

Guys are going to have to step up.

Yes but in the long run Management has a goal to reduce payroll and remain competitive. I don't think they feel pressured Because they feel we are as good or better then any team in our division.

Pirates re-sign Nova to a 3 year $26 million contract. If he is Nova of the second half and Searage fixed him. Not holy is that one hell of a bargain, he'll also be a huge trade piece at that cheap ass contract.

Also being reported that the Pirates are going heavy after Quintana. This would be a wild turn of events, though they could get this deal done and then recoup some prospects after dealing Cutch.

Chris Camello saying it sounds like from his sources that the team is done talking trades until after the new year. He wouldn't rule out a FA signing, but this may be the teams way of saying to the Twins, "get real or we are walking away".

There have been a couple reports in the last 24 hours that make it sound like this thing is at an impasse as the Twins are rumored to be demanding either Alvarez or Bellinger ALONG with De Leon, which would be outrageous for Dozier. They are acting like last seasons second half is the type of player he will be going forward, which is probably not likely. I believe that the Nats pulled a mother fucking D'Backs and set the trade bar outrageously high. So unless something changes, I will no longer be expecting a Dozier deal. For those saying, "well go after Forsythe or Kinsler", it sounds like Kinsler is dead based on his demands and Tigers asking price, while the Rays are also rumored to be asking astronomical prices for their players as they feel they will compete this season with all their pitchers coming into the season healthy. So we are probably looking at a Solarte or the team going into the season with Hernandez, Taylor and likely a return of Utley.

Before everyone freaks out, that may not be the worst thing in the world. As @Dodgers99 said, that would be suitable depth if the club doesn't pull a Springfield Power Plant Softball team the first couple weeks of the season again. I think a lot of folks forget that Grandal and Turner were still hurting as the season began and took off real slow, we lost Ethier, Agon also had a slow start, Joc was still figuring things out with his new swing and nobody knew what to do with the OF. Getting a healthy Thompson, SVS and Ethier, plus having Toles should make for more balanced OF. Hill and Urias should lead to a more balanced rotation and if Wood is anything like last season, that is a hell of a front 5. I can live with some question marks at 2B for the time being if it is Utley, Kikay, Taylor for the time being. If the team comes out moderately healthy and don't all contract acute radiation poisoning, they'll likely be able to deal from depth in the rotation or from the OF. For fucks sake, I hope we can just stay fucking healthy for once....

If we sign Utley we have to cut someone from the 40-man (2 players actually, since we are already one over).

And Ethier was set to be the lead off man against RHP before he got hurt, so maybe they just put that plan back in motion?
Solarte would be cool on the surface, but it's Preller they're dealing with, so who knows what's wrong with the player - health wise - so yeah, they'd maybe have to haggle over medicals and all kinds of other shit the Pads' loser FO will come up with.

They could have quite a lineup if Brantley returns to health.
