Looked like the ref called it too soon to me. Coner said so too.

You know, Conor won this fight, not in the sense of a final score or TKO, but someone with no prior experience boxing went 10 rounds with arguably the best pound for pound boxer in a generation and got a TKO...that is questionable.

That's a Conor win. Mayweather should have dismantled Conor is a few rounds, but didn't.

Of course, Money may need more money, so whether this was calculated for a re-match....who knows.

Conor was out of his league they all said but the first four rounds he was putting a lick on Fayweather
who, smart as a cagey old bull, let McGregor wear himself down
until he was near gassed.. and then opened up. Kind of. For Fayweather. At least he walked forward.
and McGregor spent rounds 5, 6, 7 mostly walking backwards
Round 8 was Conor's last stand. his tank was empty.
the fight 'could' have been called in Round 9 but somehow punch drunk exhausted McGregor lasted until the bell
Round 10 was not going to turn out so well. Conor touched and swang at once but no steam existed, the mouthy Irishman was playing pitapata
not that Fayweather struck so firecely either but Conor has stood more steady after a case of Guinness and a fifth of Jameson.
He never fell. He never got knocked down. He was still dodging at the end. but it was over and everyone knew it even if Conor didn't have the guts to admit it.
He made a go of it and collected $100,000,000.00+

He proved he could get that far
He also proved that a stout boxing MMA fighter has no business being in the ring with a 49-0 world champion boxer (at least past 5 rounds)
And tonight proved that boxing is dead as a sport. Wow were some of the under cards booooooooooooooooring. They should have had half of the undercard be MMA which would have livened things up considerably.
And the arena was 93% empty until 10 minutes before the main event
It looked terrible in the prelim bouts backgrounds

    But it was entertainment
and I didn't pay for it... Thanks Glenn!!

Connor looked as good as he could. may just played with him and knew he would tire. 8oz gloves? where was that Connor power? Floyd took his straight left a few times like it was a 12 year old girl hitting him. if Floyd wanted to fight like he usually does, Connor wouldn't have landed a punch, but he wanted that ko. then the 40 year old man that was inactive for 2 years, that half assed trained, partied 2 nights before in the AM walked down the younger and much bigger guy and ended it.

sadly though this was more entertaining than 90 percent of boxing matches.

GGG vs Alvarez, the English heavyweight scene. Boxing is far from dead.

GGG against anyone alive standing, whatever about Alvarez - OK that's 1 - GGG

    Name three more.
Name any heavyweight anyone cares about now that the brothers Klitscho have sired out to pasture
We had a crowd of 30-35 and half left for the backyard the boxing was so weak.
These are the same fight educated crowd that cheer knowledgeably at UFC MMA fights

A decade ago all the 'real' fighting talent went into MMA because cage fighting is far more akin to real world street fighting than Marquis de Quinsbury rules.

you're right. not to mention all the young kids watching the past decade actually have a chance to be an mma fighter via wrestling. not many can start boxing competitively at a young age. but you can wrestle.

surprised you even watched this "fight"
remember the epic fight nights w my dad when it was Hearns/Hagler and Whitaker/Chavez and Leonard/Duran and Benitez and Mayweather and Camacho and the whole sport was incredible?
but that set of middleweights was special and they all actually fought each other
and then came that shameful night when it was decided Leonard had beaten Marvelous Marvin
that was the end for me even paying attention
i loved hagler and he straight up beat Sugar Rays ass in that fight
    i seriously stopped watching it
i think pro wrestling might have more integrity
but those nights around the tv are some pretty fucking good memories
unless of course you weren't there and then you missed out lol
    and btw fcuk you

the middleweights very always the draw for me
not just the leonard/hearns/hagler/duran big four
but the other greats -- antuofurmo, hamsho, roldan, benitez, sibson, caveman lee, minter, briscoe, sutherland, cuevas...
lighter weight fights were always appealing to me
mostly because khjtv9 used to have the weekly gillette boxing show
remember danny little red lopez, bobby chacon, bazooka limon, ruben olivarez?
and who can forget arguello/pryor 1?
and i fucken loved ray boom boom mancini [full homo]
people always talk about the first round of hearns/hagler, which was great
but this was always my fave...

Conor hadn´t thrown a punch in forever, was being knocked around the ring, stumbling and bumbling.
Ref´s job is to protect the fighter when the fighter´s no longer capable of protecting himself, especially enforced in this era with all the brain study.
    Good show anyway.
All in all, May fight weekend was fun and the fight was better than expected, about as good as anyone could´ve hoped for.
Have to call the entire event a success.
BTW, Vegas legalized for rec purposes back in July, so if you´ve not been since then..it´s real.

    totally agree
was pulling for mcgregor but he had nothing left and was gassed
even if conor had recovered he had no steam left on his punches
ref did a great job (all fight btw) and all he did was prevent the inevitable
great success indeed -- much better than most (certainly myself) anticipated
conor looked good for a couple rounds, competitive and game overall, and floyd was brilliant adapting as usual
boxing won, mma won, and conor and floyd raked :vrp:

Conor was sharp on the outside, but he wasn´t ready for inside technique and banging.
Will need a lot for more work as far as inside technique goes if he wants to continue in boxing and actually move up in the ranks.
Spent too much time trying to evade instead of stepping into May and holding his ground and banging in some return shots to the body.
What Mosley did to Margarito is what Conor needed to respond with as the fight went on and May started walking forward.
Sucked to see Conor let a smaller guy bully him like that, but I guess we can only expect so much from Conor under these circumstances.
Which brings me to old man May..Lol @ dragging it out against a newcomer that´s never even been beyond 5 rounds
I have to give it to May, he will do anything it takes to win, but my god that was sad
It made for a good fight, but wow

Conor acted the fool and at least he got paid.
He was a fool to start so fast and gas so badly

Floyd showed why he's the champ. Conor needs to STFU and get back to UFC and defend the belts he's won before they are both stripped from him

Will that happen? Oh hell no, the UFC is not going to harm it's cash cow

Yeah it was bloodsport so of course I was in.

And Yes boxing is a pale shade of what it was when we watched Hagler / Hearns together.
It's my opinion that all of the better fighters got into MMA since boxing looked so tired and stale.
And watching the undercard nothing has changed to save boxing... it's toast
