  2. Front line starter (degrom, thor, et al)

It is not about the money the org made this year and it will never be about that while they have this TV deal. It's the luxury tax/threshold that is the problem. Dodgers still have a ton of dead money on the books next season that is weighing them down and by the time other big contracts drop off, guys like Wood, Seager, Bellinger and Taylor will be getting more and more expensive.

I think it would be fun if the Dodgers were involved as well and that started to circulate just to get the conversation going on here, but the truth is, we are probably looking at a moderately boring couple of months. This FO always waits til the dust settles and I could see them doing the same again this year to do anything.

For those wondering, the Dodger projected payroll next year is 202,334,522. This is taking into account likely Arb raises I believe from Cots. Some players to keep an eye on that would impact that Number

    Potential Trade Candidates
Yasmani Grandal- Will be getting a raise over his $5.5 mil from last year which should be in the $7-9 mil neighborhood. It would be a bargain for a catcher of his caliber, but is entering his contract year after likely losing his job to Austin Barnes. I'd expect a solid return from a team that feels catcher is one of their big needs to get over the hump.

Hyun-Jin Ryu- Also going into his walk year with $7.83 Mil on the books in 2018. Ryu had a solid season and regained his footing as a major league starting pitcher. He is no longer a #3 pitcher, but a more than capable #4 or 5 that will give you some good games, but sprinkle in share of rough ones as well. Being that it is his walk year and he is coming off a year where he regained some value, I expect the org to trade him in favor of giving guys like Stewart, Stripling, Oaks, Buehler, Font, Santana and White shots this next season. He will still be considered cheap and should return a decent prospect who may be further away.

Brandon McCarthy- Like Ryu, he too is entering his walk year. Another up and down season from McCarthy who at times again flashed the reasoning behind him getting a 4 year contract. Now with $11.5 Mil remaining on his deal, the club may choose to move him instead of counting on the very untrustworthy pitcher. At this point, McCarthy would not likely return much other than potential salary relief.

    Options
Andre Ethier- $2.5 Mil Buyout with $17.5 Mil club option. This is an easy call with the buyout, though it MAY NOT be the end of Ethier in LA after all. The team could elect to bring him back on a cheaper deal to see what he can do off the bench.

Logan Forsythe- $1 Mil Buyout with $8.5 Mil club option. All signs point to Forsythe returning after a solid run in the playoffs. Upside of him having a healthy spring and beginning of the season outweigh the minimal financial obligations.

    Potential Retirees / DFA
Scott Kazmir- If he really is as out of whack as they say he is. It may be time for Kazmir to hang them up. with $17.6 mil on the books for 2018, he would be doing the organization an amazing service if he took the injury retirement. Otherwise, if he shows up to camp looking like he did this season, he gone either way.

Adrian Gonzalez- This is another one that we may not know about until the spring. AGon has $22.3 mil heading his way next season and according to both Matt Diaz and Ryan Spillbourghs, there are rumblings within the baseball community that he may just take an injury retirement due to complications with his back injury. It is hard to see AGon willingly be a bench player going forward and with what looks like Cody Bellinger fully entrenched at the position, that is where his spot would be unless he finds the fountain of youth over the winter. Which by the way, if he came back and was able to put up anything like he was in 2016, that wouldn't be all that terrible.

You're right, I could've sworn he was included in that group they wanted to move, but sure enough, he wasn't.

No team is taking on 100% of the contract. Marlins will have to eat a good chunk. If Miami eats a good 35% or like 100 million of it, it becomes worth it

Lots of things are facts. We have gone through this many times.
    They are not true though.
The truth is that the Astros are better than us and are the best team in the MLB.
You saw it during the series but you choose to forget it. The irrationality of a religious fanatic.

The truth is that we were not the best team. Like the Transformers or Fast and Furious movies we have a great record and made lots of money but that does not mean we had a great movie worthy of awards.

Altuve is the new Pete Rose, Correa is almost ARod, Bregman is a rookie but fuck me. Just look at his wikipedia damn. Its like he is Neo in the Matrix, the groomed chosen one. He got hurt his senior year so he went from a potential #1 pick to a guy who would probably not even be picked in the first round. He told every team that if they picked him after the 1st round he would not sign. The Red Sox picked him in some later rounds so he went to college ball. After playing in college he was picked #2 in the draft.
A HS kid telling pro GM's that if they pick him in the second round or later he will refuse to sign... then actually doing it. Balls.
No wonder he balled out when it mattered most.
As great as all the other guys on this team are the Jeter of the Astros will be Bregman.
He is their next Craig Biggio at the very least. Already the best defensive 3B in the AL as a rookie and who knows in the NL. The dude is a bonafide SS with lots of power and speed and a great hitter but can play anywhere.
Plus he's a white jew from new mexico who played with the latin players down under in the summers fluent in spanish and probably doesnt do steroids or beat his wife or forget to pay his taxes.
I mean this kid has every box checked on all kinds of categories.

    Gurriel is like an afterthought.
If Bregman is their Biggio then Yuli is their Jeff Bagwell.

    Thats just their IF.
    Want me to keep going?

Start with the worst one. Marwin.
He was like the LF/3B version of James Loney for a few years.
Then this year he turned into the fully realized version of James Loney.
Marwin is in the same track that Turner was on basically when he finally become Good Turner.
This is his first Good Turner year at 28 like Turner at around the same time.
Except Marwin put it all together in one complete season of 500 at bats. Turner needed two seasons to get that many at bats even while providing great production.

No I forgot about Reddick, obviously he is their worse one.
Although he had a really nice season, kinda their version of Puig.
If Puig is our loudmouth foolish latino He is their white trash Puig.
Our Puig is better of course and fuck Josh Reddick.

    George Springer, yeah...

    Remember Barry Bonds in Pittsburgh?

I think insurance can pick up a portion for cash purposes, but for luxury tax purposes, they may be stuck.

None of the comparisons I made about those players are facts btw. I concede this point ahead of time.
    They are accurate though.

Yes he is worth the contracts of McCarthy and Kazmir on the books for the next 10 years.
If they came and told you last offseason and told you that the Dodgers have to pay 30M a year to these two useless pitchers again but that the only difference between the previous year and the coming year is that they morphed into one superstar league MVP caliber type player who is barely about to enter his prime and that you would have that dragon beast in your lineup for the next decade until he peters out like A-Rod breaking down towards the end or maybe becomes the all natural bigger and badder SF version of Barry Bonds or simply just becomes a solid star old fat dude that has to play 1B/DH like Papi Ortiz.

I say yeah, totally worth that gamble.
I mean, we been carrying silly ass contracts like that for years now.
Why not consolidate all the 14 to 18M dollar gambles into one 30M dollar a year gamble where we are locked in for 10 years at a low fixed APR that actually spreads the risk by having the potential rewards be fucking ginormous in comparison.

If Im Gugggenheim I tell the nerds that they get 1 of these types of deals a decade.
The rest has to come from their nerd magic.
And there better be returns, lots of deep playoff runs and championships to make lots of brand equity and consumer engaged liquid revenue streams and other shit.

If not they just get some more nerds and fire these nerds.
They can always get more nerds.
    They are everywhere.
Like Bregman playing defense around the 3B bag.
    Everywhere..

but it is true, that underdog feeling that you have in your gut... search your feeling, you know it to be true.
the dodgers were the underdog we just had that gaudy win streak when we got a double shot of drugs pumped into our arms when Chris Taylor and Bellinger started to pop and never stopped for a few months with a bunch of other ho hums going pop pop pop until Dave took Hill out the perfect game and it all went to shit.
