Big start for May today. The Padres are solid, but he has also faced them 50% of the time for starts, so it's good to face a club he doesn't know well. Going 6 tonight against a team that puts the ball in play as much as the Angels, plus has the boppers that they do could be another big step for May asserting himself as a piece of the rotation.

It will be interesting to watch Ruiz in the days ahead. Roberts has been really positive about Ruiz when he has discussed him this season. Ruiz is apparently in better shape than he has been in the past and is starting to drive the ball a bit more. The dude has some elite bat to ball skills, but the issue has always been not putting the ball in the air enough and making TOO much contact. If he really is starting to drive the ball more and start being a bit more selective, his ceiling is one of the better catchers in the game.

Roberts mentioned recently they have been working with Ruiz take some of the launch angle (formerly called an upper cut) out of his swing.

Angels only have one lefty in their pen and he hasn't thrown since the 7th. For his career, Teheran has been much worse against LHB's, so it does make some sense.

From what I know about Ruiz was that his swing was too flat, especially from the RH side. Roberts said that since he has shown up for camp 2.0, he has been much better at getting under the ball a bit and getting better backspin. That would line up with what reports were saying during spring training where they had mentioned that they were retooling his swing.

I may be thinking too far ahead, but it will be interesting to see how the Dodgers handle the catcher position if Ruiz lives up to expectations. I don’t see the Dodgers trading Smith or Ruiz unless there was a huge need on the roster, which we currently don’t have. I know Smith spent some time at 3B coming up, and there could certainly be some available starts at 3B moving forward. I think the DH is here to stay as well, so there are another handful of starts. Can they get both 100 starts? And is that enough?

Edwin, dude, if you’re hurt you gotta fuckin say something and not cost us a run AND probably hurt yourself more

hope he’s okay since he’s a good hitter, but that kinda injury can linger for awhile

Rios talks his way into staying in the game. That combined with Beaty trying to stretch a single into a double costs is an easy run. Nice.

Two outs on the base paths and the other one on a laser hit into the shift.

Didn't know he was hamstrung...then jerkoff Dave should have put a PR in immediately.
Can't replace the elite manager, though. Nope.
