yeah everyone that keeps saying “this is step 1, next year things will be even better, Dodgers gotta watch out!” Lol yeah buds I’m sure Hosmer and Myers will OPS over .900 for a full season. And Clevinger and Lamet will finally put together a full season for the first time. And Muncy/Cody will continue to slump all next year. Sure thing, then that gap will close

Not so sure about Hosmer and Myers. Pre-Tatis and Manny they were under the pressure of being the main men in the lineup. As complimentary pieces they thrived. Wouldn't surprise me if they continued that.

maybe but also Myers has literally never OPSed above .800 and Hosmer is incredibly inconsistent, only getting older, and both those guys hold extremely offensive heavy positions.

Urias came through big last night, and he's looking as good as he has all season.

I don't know what the plan is with the rotation for a 7-game series, but the Braves rotation gets pretty murky after their top 2. We should have a huge advantage in games 3-5.

I also see an extremely bad defensive team. Hosmer, even though the announcers tried to say he's a good defender, is not a good defensive 1B. They traded away Hedges, a good catcher behind the plate, for an offensive catcher. Cronenworth makes Jeff Kent look like Ozzie Smith. Their CFer might have single handedly cost us the WS last year because he can't field. Tatis has the potential, but he tries to do WAY too much by airmailing 100 mph throws to first when the runner is 10 feet past the bag. I think Machado is the only plus defender on the team. And while bad defense can be masked over the course of a season when you can just drop 10 runs on AAAA pitchers, that's a tough blueprint for winning close games in the postseason with shortened pitching staffs.

    ours is pretty murky too
but only because it hasn’t been defined
urias, may and gonsolin are all good options as #3 and #4 or out of the pen
still wondering why gonsolin didn’t get the start, especially with may only going 1 inning

I'm not sure what the plan was with May. They basically lined it up so we weren't going to get a solid start from May all series - they might as well have let him go all out in Game 1 if this was the plan. I don't know if Roberts said anything, but I felt like they wanted more out of May yesterday but he just didn't have it in the first. Maybe they wanted May to throw 3 and then they would piggyback with Urias - but they put in Kolarek as a bandaid so Urias would have more time to warmup.

I wonder if this makes the team think twice about getting cute, and we go with a straight 5-man rotation in the NLCS.

he’s looked like a completely different pitcher in his recent starts where they use an opener for him. He struggled hard in the first inning in games this year but when they used an opener he comes in and just cruises. Gonsolin and May also look very good when they use it but I have more faith they don’t necessarily need it.

I personally don’t like the opener but it’s hard to argue against using it for Urias at least. I think they should use better options to open it up, but the strategy seems to work for him

my thought is the plan with May is he’s technically the 5th starter, but they should use his live arm earlier in the series cause you shouldn’t necessarily just hold him for a hypothetical game 5 when you can: 1) end the series earlie and 2) a game 5 is gonna be all hands on deck anyways so not like you’re saving him for a 5-7 inning outing in game 5. I think they’ll be more typical in the NLCS and maybe just use him out of bullpen in game 1 or 2 as a side session and then have him ready for game 5.

I’m gonna guess Urias goes game 3 and Gonsolin 4 (Braves are much worse against lefties than righties... which means we’re gonna need a lot of our lefty relievers this series)

I'm especially pleased with the victory because of Machado and Tatis...the fact they crushingly disappointed and really both had shitty offensive series is wonderful. Very.
Too look at Machado's face in the ninth, after a fierce beatdown was joy in a bottle.
Agree with FSU that they will be a pain in the ass, surely in seasons to come, but how long have they been down ?
It had to come to fruition that they got competitve finally, and they do have some impressive talent.
They would be even more impressive if they had Dave Roberts as manager.
