Damn. Good move by the Padres.

They didn't even give up any players that they could potentially ship to the Nationals for Soto.

"How did your first day in the show measure up to your expectations?"

Slightly better question off the top of my head.

There is a place for "how do you feel" type questions. See Vin.

You'll also notice that ballplayers seem far less intelligent in 2022 (compared to 1965), and I don't envy the reporters that have to get a decent answer out of them.

All the speculated pieces in a package for Soto didn't get moved in the Hader deal. They could still make a strong offer to Washington and I have a feeling they will out of fear of the Dodgers further widening the gap if we get Soto. I'll never fear the Padres but Tatis-Soto would be one helluva duo for many years

yeah that's a pretty sledgehammer comparison but ii think the far less intelligent player has acclimated to far less intelligent questions
i like watching the players face as the questions are asked

A Soto trade would involve our top six prospects, per earlier reports. If I understand correctly, that gets us three postseasons with him. After that we'd have to resign him, and we already know the size of extension he rejected from Washington. What's the chance we could do that with massive contracts already to Mookie, FF, and possibly soon Trea (let alone our pitchers)?

So let's assume no - what it then comes down to is this... Is it worth gutting the farm for a greater potential of rings over the next three years? I'm not sure how I feel about that. Certainly, if it resulted in three rings, then sure. But odds are it wouldn't. Maybe we'll win one of three, but as CK says, the roster as-is can accomplish that (provided we fix our closer issue).

I mean at least you can look at her and wonder what she looks like wearing nothing...better than Rosenthat with his bow tie and shit.
And...don't even have to ask, he's circumcised.
    No mystery there.

not to mention if we don't actually intend on backing up the brinks truck and allow him to play like we've done w Trea how's he going to react to that?
certainly don't expect any player to start pouting but it wouldn't be the first time
all i hear is great things about his attitude to this point

Yeah. Provided that Will Smith stays healthy, I wouldn't mind maximizing trade value on Cartaya in a couple years when he's major league ready, but we're going to need most of the rest of those guys.

If we give up a lot for Soto then we gave up a lot for a generational 23 year old who is on the same pace as Ted Williams statistically. I’m in

jpl, what do you think the likelihood of keeping him beyond his current contract would be?
