haha my wife was born in Mexico and grew up in Santa Ana. So she grew up with every corner having like three 24 hour Taquerias and mexican food trucks everywhere. We now live in the La Palma/Cerritos side of town and she's losing it. We have one authentic mexican place in the vicinity that closes at 9PM and that's it. Not to say we can't drive 10 minutes to another city to get some, but it's definitely not the same for her.. Now when we get Mexican food we usually go to Taco Surf in Seal Beach or some other gringo mexican place. Food is bomb, but I think she misses going into tiny restaurants with channel 34 on and Spanish only staff. We're trying to cook more though.

Have you ever had Wendy's or McDonalds. If you use cheap ingredients, it won't be that good

That's exactly what I was saying. McDonald's and Wendy's use pink slime, which is a cheap ingredient which only vaguely resemble beef. But that's what people get when they want to buy a "burger" for a buck.

I stopped on the way home from work and got a chocolate milkshake. Turns out their chocolate milkshakes are not nearly as good as the coffee and strawberry ones

My wife was born in and grew up in Portland, OR, so when I met her she literally thought Taco Bell was Mexican food. She's since learned the error of her ways and now we live in Irvine so we're hard pressed for good Mexican places unless we want to drive to Santa Ana or Costa Mesa. It's good if you want to lose weight though. Plus carne asada tacos are actually really easy to cook.

there has to be those trucks on the side of the road right?
i will eat off any food cart/truck anywhere as long as i see a consistent crowd
some of the best authentic mexican food ever you just have to find the spot they occupy

Cerritos is a quiet affluent neighborhood and La Palma is quiet as well. We're right on the border between the two. Not a lot of foot traffic for those kind of trucks.

Especially not Mexican food. Even when there's Mexican food in neighboring cities, it's nothing to the degree of Santa Ana..in quantity or quality. Santa Ana is just insane. The amount of foot traffic, Hispanics, etc...Mexican food is not mexican food over there. It's simply 'food'. lol

    Dude she's right

Nothing beats those 'hole in the wall' taquerias that white people avoid. Best food ever.

I cannot eat gringo style Mexican food.. too many nativos around even if you have to drive a bit

Gotta hit a Tacos Reyes. They have a spot somewhat close to you on Topanga and Saticoy i think. Or if you can find one of the two trucks on sherman way. Good stuff man

It's not real Mexican food unless it reminds you the next day of what you ate.
