almost over sort of like Maurice's career was at this point in 1990 still remains one of my favorite celebrity encounters happy Sept 21st!
Just finished watching Ken Burn's " Mohammed Ali" ... What a trip, bringing back those times that mirrored his life story. I wasn't one the people who went to the close circuit theaters to see him lose, to see someone kick.his ass, I went to see him win. And in this presentation, the best of many I have seen over the years, I found out so much about him that I did not know. And all these years later, I'm glad I did root for him...more than ever. He was the greatest athlete I ever saw. And so much more.
I get where you're going, but they refused to give him conscientious objector status, because of his religion and how it was viewed then. How is that legit for some and not for others ? He also gave, with my own service and many years of life's patina well behind me, the greatest reason of why he wouldn't go of anyone, ever, imo. And was willing to go to jail for it. No matter how I groused over it when he refused.
i agree with you but he did not qualify for a religious exemption its an exemption so its at the discretion of the government and you dont get the benefit of discretion when you are trying to make a loud point which he was just like you cant claim to be a devout member of the religion of peace while making a living as a prizefighter in the business of drugs, sex, and organized crime you can get any man of the cloth to say that you are a religious person that wont ever guarantee you a exemption his beef was probably that brown people are always sent in larger numbers to fight in foreign lands using islam as a shield when he lived a secular lifestyle was bound to backfire
