    Why? I’d actually try to keep Turner and use some money for another SP.

    Sounds like Scherzer is going to make his decision by Wednesday. Mets are going after him hard but he prefers the West Coast. Between the Angels, Giants, Dodgers, and Mets.

    A meaningful update, I guess...not a good one
    @JonHeyman
    Mets seem heartened and hopeful about the prospects of landing Max Scherzer. Dodgers pessimistic, at least at the moment.

    • The Mets have offered Scherzer a multi-year contract, according to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, that could be a three-year, $120MM pact.

    Mets with the ultimate ownage of the Dodgers

    Lose out on the Bauer sweepstakes to us just to win the Scherzer sweepstakes over us

    @jonmorosi

    Max Scherzer and the #Mets are close to finalizing a multiyear deal, source confirms.

    Yup, reports are Mets at $40M+ per year. 3 year min contract. Crazy.

    Was good while it lasted.

    Definitely a realistic take on the situation...and there was a BIG preview of all that at the very end of last season. By it's end, it will be a thing from now on.
    Along with his innate greatness, he had some VERY good luck at the very end. And then..a no show, let's face ii.
    Of course, having Dave as the button pusher is not good for Max ( or any other 37 yr. old pitcher...except maybe Satchel Paige), but an LA exit may work wonders for his aging arm.
    Meanwhile, let's keep Dave and his wallet/taint well lubricated, and sit back and watch what he does to whomever.
    * I loved the guy always...always defended him, no matter what..but spending a load on Kershaw at this point in his career makes little sense, except emotionally, embracing loyalty and a glorious past.
    How many wins can we really get from this guy ?
    * I firmly believe we're going to blow this off season bigger than shit..and for all our grandiose moves at the trade deadline, pats on the proverbial LA golden ass, wows by fans and pundits alike, we folded like a house of cards in a windstorm at the end.
    And we've got the perfect skipper in place for a redux. Just got a feeling when Bud and Gabe go to Dave's cookouts, after he serves them Dodger Dags, they both look at each other with wry smiles as the core of the team scurries away somewhere else.

    Hard to turn down that deal. 3 years/130 million. If degrom can stay healthy, that’s a deadly 1-2 combo. Where do the Dodgers turn now?

    As much as I would have liked to keep Scherzer, at $43M per year for 3 years, that’s just crazy. There is a reason the Nats traded him away, and his dead arm was not a good sign even though I do put a lot of the blame on Roberts for that.

    The thing is, if Bauer wasn’t such a moron, we would not have needed Scherzer in my opinion.

    In terms of where the Dodgers go from here, I think the emphasis has to be on retaining either Seager or Trea Turner, and finding a replacement for CT (don’t think the Dodgers want to pay him what he wants and maybe able to get elsewhere).

    We may need to explore a replacement for JT as well. Getting long in the tooth.

    As for SP, if Dustin May’s recovery looks good, I think we’re not in too bad a situation. Buehler will hopefully learn how to pitch better in pressure situations with this past experience, perhaps Roberts won’t do stupid things and abuse Urias, and Gonsolin will find a rhythm.

    I can’t think of another SP on the market worth reaching for.
