The goodbye part made me lol. I'm just as frustrated as the next person about the quiet Winter Meetings so far. It's not as sexy or as immediate as a reward, but Friedman (and many other GM's) has talked several times about how the Winter Meetings help lay groundwork for those trade deadline deals.

If we look at his track record, he really doesn't get the superstar players for us via free agency. The only two I can think of, and both were scenarios where the stars aligned for us were Freeman and Bauer. Atlanta fucked up and let us swoop in, and Bauer was one of a few young guys (maybe the only one???) open to a short term deal with a high AAV. Doesn't hurt that both are relatively local boys who liked the idea of playing for the Dodgers.

Friedman does his best work at the deadline to bolster the team. It's also not a terrible strategy - you get a half season to evaluate the current club and determine what is needed most to fill in the gaps. Again, this isn't as sexy as signing the big free agents but Friedman isn't the guy to give out 7+ year contracts (Mookie being the exception after we saw his impact on the clubhouse, got a feel for his character, etc).

    Accurate.

As much as we all hate Correa on this board, I think we'd all happily support him as our SS (eventually lol)

The thing that actually bothers me most about that article by Rosenthal, is that he's indicating we're hesitant about spending because of the Bauer situation. If he is able to play next year (which I really fucking hope he is because it's pretty clear that entire case was a sham) it's $100m cap hit with the repeater cap offense and all that. It's also frustrating that the MLB is fucking us by not giving us clarity on the situation. I understand it's just money, but $100m cap hit for one guy and not knowing if he's even going to play is really fucked up from the MLB.

Idk bro, about they don't get the superstar players in the past...Manny and Max were bona fide superstar stuff, and you could argue that Trea became a superstar on the Dodgers, but this ridiculous lurking in the shadows is just douchebaggery to the highest degree. The tactic of trade deadline, as you say, is sound, but bottom line, wtf has it really gotten us over the years ? I' ve love to be wrong, and eat my words, but we've got the paper tiger market cornered, it looks as a result.
    Money talks. Bullshit walks.
Why even bother making douchey offers that you know aren't going to get guys like Judge and Verlander and who ever else they lowballed ? What's the purpose ? To say " well we tried, right" to the faithful...baseball fans aren't that fucking stupid...well...most of them , anyway. Maybe they need to hand out a 7 yr. contract. Or two even. If it's the prevailing methodology that gets the best players, what good is biting off your nose to spite your face?
This is all smoke and mirrors to me, and they absolutely should have extended TT about 9 months ago. How do you watch that guy do what he did, and let him escape ? Who has the best " historic" lineup now? Not us anymore, imo. Harper and Turner look pretty good in the Phillie lineup to me...and how good does Machado, Soto and Tatis look ( Tatis' idiocy aside).
Are we gonna match them and everyone else with who? Lux ? Rookies ? Oh forgot...now we covet Andrew McCutchen.
You're right too, about SD. I fear all we have done is awaken a sleeping giant...
Apropos on Dec. 7 th, eh?
And I firmly believe impact players, especially guys nearing their last contracts they'll ever get, just don't want to take a bite out of that free radical pushing the buttons in the LA dugout. Nor the tax structure.
    Bad taste.
    Word gets around...

Rosenthal's article is trash. Here is the thing about Ken Rosenthal. He is the best reporter and news breaker in the business. but that is where him being good at anything stops. he's a shit journalist. He named dropped the Dodgers being interested in a 21 year old Japanese pitcher that isn't likely to even be posted for another 4 years as where the Dodgers focus is at. Like it just makes you question all of the other shit he is saying in the article

Hearing this morning that Kim moves to second, with Tatis reclaiming his position at SS. Cronenworth moves to first.

Fine with me. Kim is a much better SS.

“I’m not going to say — we’re not at a point where I need to say [Lux] is our shortstop, but as far as if it plays out as such, absolutely. Gavin’s gotten better every year that’s his natural position. But just having the flexibility to have him at third — or at second, if we need, I think helps the ball club and Gavin’s open to that. But certainly if Gavin takes down everyday shortstop innings then I’ve got no problem with that.”
