i see the joke in there, i want to give him the benefit of the doubt, the joke could have been just way way to over the top satirical i would have bought that, until he started posting his reasonings if you must explain a joke then its already lost a big chunk of its points but if it must be explained then it needs to make sense once explained and what he explains makes his joke no longer satire because his true feelings are not that far off from what he wrote, it went into a very mean spirited place that came straight out of his own feelings on the subject it went past comedy imo if he was mocking those like myself who say that Kuroda is not worth the price even though his stats are fantastic because he thinks we exaggerate all these reasons why we dont mind him being replaced then that can work this of course would have been a valid form of satire because the complaints against wanting Kuroda are very different from your regular issues with a FA they have to do with not wanting to be traded to a contender, his japan centric set of issues, his seemingly loyalty not to the team but to not wanting to have to move? etc... the complaints against him are kind of esoteric when compared to if he was a regular pitcher specially one coming off an ERA just slightly over 3 but he himself dislikes Kuroda for all those reasons himself and even then some so his exaggerations were no longer mocking others who feel that way but merely exaggerations of his own bad feelings towards kuroda at the end of the day what his he trying to mock in his joke? the people who give Kuroda shit, Kuroda, or even himself? either way it looks like he failed... unless you need to know this guy and his humor well in advance to better get the joke
Good points. I could see it as funny if it was sarcasm opposite of his opinion, or an exaggeration of a popular opinion... but upon explanation it appears to be an exaggeration of his own opinion that Kuroda should have accepted a trade last season. Personally I'm never going to knock anyone for wanting to be a Dodger. I see what he was trying to do. He failed. Whatever. But a good writer should lick his wounds, learn, and move on - not whine, take his ball, and go home. That's truly where he fails (well that and bitching at Kuroda for not wanting a trade - good grief that's lame).
exactly his responses have all been lame, smug, and defensive he wants to pretend that he is travelling on some kind of higher road then everyone else, at least in terms to the subject of not being politically correct and in how he has chosen to respond to people giving him shit unfortunately for him his writing is not a good enough to hide his true intent
He still don't like me Friday, July 13th is Blogger Night. Yawn… I had the time to spare. I had the money. I just didn’t want to go. Maybe it was because when the Dodgers started allowing “bloggers” to sit in the pressbox, I was the first one to be there! Not a blogger from LA, but a stinking blogger from Indiana. Who knew? I thank Josh Rawitch for that (hope all is well in AZ, Josh – I have your number but I haven’t called… sorry, maybe someday!). I am sure if I was there, there would be some fireworks. I would have to tell the moron from the LFP that he is a punk and a hypocrite (to say nothing of being a cretin) and maybe beat his ass. In case he doesn’t know what “cretin” means, here’s the definition: “A Person that is: brainless, stupid, child-like, and full of pointless information that makes no sense and appeals only to other cretins. They can be found in abundance in every single populated internet forum, where they race to post as many mind-numbing messages as possible in a single session. In addition, they seemingly interbreed with other cretins, ensuring that their cretinous genes continue long after they end up dead meaning the Internet will never be rid of their kind. More’s the pity.” I would have to hear Ned Colletti say that he is working overtime looking for deals that will help the Dodgers and blah, blah, blah. Then Stan Kasten would come in and say that Dodger Pride is alive and well, and finally Magic would walk in and make me vomit! I can script the whole thing. I had no desire to go and see anyone but Jon Weisman. I would pay admission to see him. For the record, I think he is struggling with the blogging thing, like me. I do wish Roberto a FULL and speedy recovery – he is a good kid. Anyway, this is my swan song. I was never a writer, as many of you so eloquently pointed out. I will be rooting for the Dodgers. I will be watching the Dodgers. I just won’t be writing for the Dodgers. I have to do other things. I hope you understand. I have been doing this for over 10 years. It’s time. I’ll be reading the blogs: Mostly Mike Petriello and Jon Weisman, that are relevant. Jared Massey is a friend and a good writer who is at Ladugout.com (Good Luck, Jared). Will I ever be back? I have no clue – never say “Never.” Believe me, I will be rooting for the Dodgers – maybe I’ll post something from time-to-time, but I’m done for now. I love you all… even Mike Dixon. If someone wants to take this blog over, let me know. I’ll help you if I can. I’m off for a week with my wife of 15 years to celebrate our anniversary in Newport, Rhode Island. Goodbye! mark@ladodgertalk.com
what a douchbag. only a db calls others cretins. like his wonky tight ass never channels his inner sports demons. i'd throw a beer on him if it didn't cost $15
