Yeah, I am starting to believe that there will not be a season. Since this is all about prospects, it really won't impact this season anyway, so it still has some interest.

After a league wide poll, Gavin Lux was selected as the rookie that will have the biggest impact in the shortened season.

Dodgers went 6 for 6 and signed each of their 2020 draft picks. Very intriguing draft.

One prospect name to watch that we have not heard much about is Ryan Pepiot. The orgs 3rd round pick in 2019 was perceived by some as a value pick that was destined to a bullpen role. Armed with arguably the best change up in the class, his other stuff was relatively pedestrian, but that 70 change helped him rack up the K's. Once joining the org, his overall stuff improved including the fastball jumping up a couple ticks and the slider taking a step forward. He is a big thick dude that sat 94-95 in his outing during intrasquads and he devastated our major league lineup with that change of his. His fastball has a high spin rate and if he can live in those mid-90's he could become another very intriguing starting pitching prospect. If the FB can only do the 94-96 thing in abbreviated outings, he could make himself very useful out of the pen as soon as this season.

So we have an update from BA, but it isn't anything too special. They did mini blurbs on our top 10 and couple notes on others. I will hit some points
    • Ruiz showed up to camp a good bit stronger than before and was driving the ball with my authority in ST. He is yet to show up for undisclosed reasons.
    • Gonsolin was sent to the alternate site to get built up.
    • Gray is now sitting 94-98 and has seen improvement in his slider. Still has a bit to go with the change, but the other two pitches are good enough that the club thinks he will impact the pen this year.
    • Busch showed up to summer camp leaner and more agile which has impressed the org to the point that they think he can handle 2B.
    • The org is incredibly thin on OF prospects, but the ones they do have, have very high ceilings.
    • A lot of eyebrows have been raised about the Dodgers inclusions of certain players on their player pool. Jackson, Pepiot, Carrillo and Michael Grove do not have the background to make one think that they will be useful this season.
    • Morgan Cooper had his second shoulder surgery in 2 years last August. 2017 second round pick is still yet to throw a pitch for the club, but he has supposedly begun throwing bullpens without setbacks.

Updated the post with MLB Pipelines mid season top 30.
    • Nice write up on Miller. They think he could be an impact pitcher both as a starter or reliever. Control will be the ultimate factor with him.
    • They LOVE Beeter. Their evaluators said he possessed potentially the best curveball in the draft and some thought his slider was even better. His fastball was improving every game and was hitting 98 before the shutdown. His top 3 pitches are so good that he never needs his change, but they gave it a solid grade. If his brief final season at Tech was the real him and not an anomaly, they think he could be the steal of the draft.
    • Vogel sounds a lot like Jeren Kendall, but they were able to nab him early enough that maybe they can mold him into a player that can actually hit. Speed is ++ and his arm is at least +. Makes a lot of contact, but rarely ever actually drives the ball, but the feeling is that the development department could fix that.
    • Knack made his way onto the list as well. He is another guy who's stuff took a leap forward this year so if it works out, he could be really something. Fastball ticked way up while also touching 98 and worked in the mid-90's. Secondaries need work, but there seems to still be room for him to improve.

With May and Gonsolin graduating, of the prospects currently on the Dodgers Top 30 according to MLBPipeline, 20 are either on the active roster(3) or at the Alt site(17).

Man, teams are calling up top prospects left and right while Lux continues to sit at the Alt site and Hernandez treks on as a terrible option offensively at 2B. That is really not good to see for him as rumors are that players and coaches at the alt sites are complaining that this option is inadequate. It is helping guys that are considered further away to a degree, but players that were felt to be on the doorstep to the bigs are seeing stunted growth as they are the ones going against usually much lesser competition. Really hope we are able to see Lux here soon and it is the guy we have been hearing all about over the last couple of seasons.

kike still has value. Can play + defense at any position. Lux would also taking a back seat to Taylor. So he seems to be stuck on bench anyway. Lux late arrival and performance in Summer Camp didn’t help.

Kike trade? Wouldn’t get many offers since he is a FA.

Nah, not talking about trading Hernandez as his trade value would be pretty low and he is valuable as you said for his defense. Thing is that Lux's D at second is considered incredibly valuable too, so there would not be a huge loss there. If Lux comes up, it is to play everyday. He would not be behind Taylor, nor should he be. Taylor is having a decent year, but Lux has a significantly higher upside offensively than Taylor. My message was more hope that Lux is not still looking atrocious at the alt site than to just bring him up for the sake of bringing him up. Me wanting to see him up would mean that he had turned the corner enough to get the call. Roberts said he was close a couple of weeks ago, but there has not been a peep since.

Roberts' silence on the subject might speak volumes.

Eh, he has not said anything really about any of the guys at the alt site. I think the only other time he mentioned a player at the alt site was Gonsolin and saying almost the same thing as he did with Lux in that he was "close" to being ready for a return to the bigs. My hope is that the rumors are true about expanding the alt site by 15 as that would at least allow for regular games to take place.

I am not so sure. FO is 100% in control in this situation.

Roberts gets his instructions and follows through.

Isn't his silence exactly that...following through on instructions ?
I guess they told him to lose in the post...and like a good robosoldier, he was magnificent at it.

Due to a number of graduations this season, for the first time since Pipeline started ranking systems in 2015. The Dodgers farm did not make their Top 10 at the mid season update. They are currently ranked #11

Dodgers have signed a couple of kids in the last couple of days.
    • Dodgers signed RHP prospect Roque Gutierrez of Mexico. The 6-ft, 175-pounder has a fastball in 90-93 mph range, a slider and an advanced changeup. He’s currently the youngest player in camp for the Aguilas de Mexicali in the LMP. He turned 18 this month. The accompanying video made that change look pretty impressive.
    • From Future Dodgers: Cole Percival is a projectable 6’5” RHP, sits low 90s but topped out at 95 over the summer. He missed all of 2019 with an injury, but had 3.38 ERA and 19/8 K/BB in 24 IP this year. Ranked 373rd by BA before the draft. Yes, this is Troy's son.

Oh wow, I totally missed Jim Callis report from our Alt site. Here are some highlights
    • Ruiz apparently took a big step forward behind the scenes. The Dodgers hitting crew focused on him a good bit and they said he did a significantly better job of using his legs and began to show more power. They also wanted him to work on his defense and in it all they noticed a significant change in his arm strength which was a surprise to everyone. He said Ruiz is back to being one of the top catching prospects in baseball due to the reports.
    • Not having a regular season could have been a massive help for Josiah Gray's development. They used the Alt Site time for him to concentrate on his secondaries. Expect to see him use his slider, curve and change up more than he has in the past and with a lot more confidence. His secondary pitches were somewhat of a question mark coming into the season and could have led to him being in the pen.
    • There is some feeling that 3rd round pick Jake Vogel could end up being the steal of the draft. The 18 year old more than held his own against much more advanced competition and showed of elite defense in CF. He has ++ speed and they think the power will be unlocked in a big way once he fills out a bit. This could be a kid that pushes Bellinger to LF in a couple of years.
    • No real report on the other draft picks that headed to the Alt Site.
    • Kody Hoese 3B, was the best hitter at the alt site and his power has really started to come out.
    • Michael Busch 2B, was drafted for his bat and there were serious questions about whether he could stick at 2B. Apparently he took a huge leap defensively and the team is confident that he will man the position. His already lethal bat took a step forward as well.
    • If you remember during scrimmages, a prospect named Ryan Pepiot came in drew a lot of attention by making our already professional hitters look fucking awful. I was excited about Pepiot as some people felt he came out of college with an 80 change up. The big issue was a fastball that 91-94 in starts. Well he is now sitting 95 with more vertical movement and it has made his changeup all the more unhittable. He was said to be the guy at camp that players wanted to face the least. Awesome to hear!
