Yeah, the farm isn't what it was a few years back. Putting together a big package with the few remaining top prospects doesn't make much sense to me, especially for a position like starting pitching where we already have strength. Agreed that Castillo is a good pitcher, but whatever incremental amount he "may" add over whoever he bumps from the rotation - is it worth it? I say no. Dodger starters' ERA is 2.72. Next best is 3.15.

or the Reds are focused on something of less value than we think they are
White and Heaney as well as May could be monster pieces out of the bp

On a personal note, I'd be more than willing to send the Reds Dave Roberts for Castillo.
    Or even not Castillo.

Heaney update from the Dodger website.........

    INJURY UPDATES
    10-day and 15-day IL

LHP Andrew Heaney (left shoulder inflammation)
    Expected return: TBD
Heaney threw a simulated game at Busch Stadium on July 12, working his pitch count into the low 30s in two simulated innings. Manager Dave Roberts said Heaney came out of his work “well." He’s set for a rehab outing for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on July 16, when he'll throw three or four innings.

Roberts said it was “possible” Heaney will need only one rehab outing before rejoining the Dodgers, but two is much more likely. In an attempt to keep Heaney on the field and contributing at the Major League level, Roberts said that he “just [doesn’t] see it as realistic” that the lefty will push past the 75-pitch mark in his starts.

"I think we're all kind of optimistic” that Heaney can avoid further injury, Roberts said. "Cautiously optimistic, but that's why I think just to err on the side of caution, I think with Andrew, it's the volume. … I think we’ve got to do whatever we can to keep him healthy, because if he’s on our roster and he’s pitching, I think in a lot of different ways he can be helpful." -- Jeff Jones (Last updated: July 12)

If Heaney rejoins the rotation, he's bumping either Anderson or White. Anderson has had almost half a season of success there, while Mitch seems to be improving with every start. Will be interesting to see how Mitch pitches today against a better hitting team than he's been facing lately. If he holds his own, then he should keep starting. Heany was almost unhittable in his two early season starts, but I hate to have a starter that's going to be limited to 4-5 innings most of the time. Roberts has a legacy of burning out his pen, so the concern is warranted. Perhaps Heaney can work long relief - we can certainly use one of those.

Dodgers and Giants showing interest in Brandon Drury.

Darragh McDonald: The Dodgers have long had a tendency to covet versatile players and Drury certainly fits that mold. With Cincy this year, Drury has moved around the infield to fill in as needed, depending on the injury status of his teammates. He’s played 51 games at third, 20 games at second, five at first and a couple at short. He hasn’t played the outfield this year but has manned the corners in previous seasons. The advanced metrics differ as to the quality of his glovework overall, but he’s generally viewed as a passable defender wherever he plays on the infield. Along the way, he’s hit 18 home runs and slashed .276/.334/.536 for a wRC+ of 136.

Saw that and was surprised to see his OPS is in the high 800's. Can't fault more versatility, and I'd rank him over Castillo in the "fills a need" category. That said, unless we're pretty certain that CT3 will be back at 100%, I'd rather target an outfielder over another infielder. Lux should not be playing LF, Pillar is done, and Trayce should not be on the roster. I know we're probably stuck with Bellinger for the rest of this year, but having another OF gives us another option if he's still at .200 come playoffs. Drury would just bottleneck the IF more, because Lux should be playing every day at 2B.

Of course, if he can play a decent LF, then it would make more sense. Just not sure about that.

Agreed. I'm not even sold on Drury's bat given his track record. Nice stats this season but this leap came out of nowhere and his previous seasons scream that he's having a fluky season.

Would make sense then that Cincy would want to try to "sell high."

    Ian Happ anyone?

Versatile, but would probably come at a higher cost than Drury.

Seager replaces George Springer(vagina) in the all star game. Also in the HR derby. Should get a solid reception.

How is he doing in Texas? Does he deserve the all star nod?

He's hit 21 HRs but he's been pretty average in every other category. I'm kind of surprised he got picked tbh

A couple of notes from The Athletic............

Heaney could make a make a rehab start in Rancho tomorrow.

Graterol's MRI came back clean, but he's going to miss two or three weeks.

No date for a rehab assignment for Dustin May, but they're looking at a mid-August return.
