yeah, I dont see it either... But I just dont think that the hole "farewell tour" should happen... he was a great player, that cant be denied, but the whole drama of each team giving a gift to Mariano was stupid...

I'm sure there will be a Clayton Kershaw "farewell tour" someday.

Yeah. But honestly, I was too young to be really into the rivalry, and while I dislike the team, I'm not going out of my way to hate them like I do the gants or recently, the D-Fags.

But if we ever meet them in the Series, I'll hate them with a fiery passion

Also I highly doubt there will be an A-Rod farewell tour. Jeter and Mo are almost universally loved. When A-Rod retires, people will just be happy to be rid of him once and for all.

I was born in the '50s and was taught to hate the Yankees by my two older brothers. The '63 World Series was as big an event as the end of the Vietnam war to me. To beat the Yankees AND in a four game sweep, was cause for celebration like no other.

That's what and when I go back to...just never could beat those bastards until Johnny P. took 'em down. That sucked year after year.
But not hatred because they were the fat cats with the money...actually, jealousy. Envy.
And you know what? We are supposed to be the "new" Yankees....but they still beat us again...on Tanaka. That's the difference between us and them...when there is a universally coveted player, hands down the prize of the universe, they get him. They'll overpay, pay the fine, tax- do whatever they have to. Tough shite for th rest of BB.
We are in that position now....but what do we do?
Don't get Tanaka, but give 25 million to a good fielder who can't hit. I think I would rather have thrown more money at Tananka and listen to all the bitching by people who are not in charge of the money.
I know, Kasten has a plan. He knows what to do...look at the Braves. I have looked at 'em...and as great as they were, they only did it once. They were the modern version of the Brooklyn Dodgers in some ways.

    it's true
once we win, that end will justify the means
but until we win, none of this really means shit
and unless the front office/scouts/management et al know more about arruebarruena's (feeble) hitting than they're letting be known...
i mean why would you spend $25MM for another no bat/good glove middle infielder when you already have that in rojas?
and why not take a flyer on bonifacio who's actually proven he can hit (a bit) at the mlb level?
if we're accruing players to build up the farm, that would be one thing
but inept-hitting players aren't going to amount to much -- either to us or in a trade

The Braves are getting a new stadium? Isn't their current park about 20 years old?

    Cubs To Sign Emilio Bonifacio
By Charlie Wilmoth [February 15 at 10:53am CST]

The Cubs have agreed to terms with infielder Emilio Bonifacio, Grupo Telemicro's Ildefonso Urena tweets. The agreement is for a minor-league deal, ESPN Chicago's Jesse Rogers reports. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports tweets that Bonifacio had Major-League offers from other teams, so it appears likely that he believes he will make the Cubs out of spring training. If he does, he will make the league-minimum salary, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Timestweets. Bonifacio is represented by Kinzer Management Group.

The Royals had previously avoided arbitration with Bonifacio, signing him to a one-year, $3.5MM deal, but they designated him for assignment when they signed Bruce Chen, meaning they only had to pay a fraction of that $3.5MM salary. Bonifacio subsequentlycleared release waivers, and became free to sign wherever he liked.

Bonifacio, 28, hit a relatively .243/.295/.331 in 461 plate appearances with the Blue Jays and Royals last season, but he can play second and third base and any outfield position, and he contributes good value on the bases. He also played shortstop semi-regularly as recently as 2011. Cubs second baseman Darwin Barney struggled last season, so Bonifacio could provide insurance at second if that happens again. He could also serve as a bench player.

After looking at it, I think he wanted a starting role and the Cubs gave a wink wink nudge nudge that he would have one. Hopefully, they follow through. If not, he just signed a minor league deal and left money and playing time on the table.
