I'm not one to complain about what Christmas has morphed into ( but I am), but at one point after dinner, everybody was in the living room, and every single person in the room was on an electronic device...except me, of course. I was told to make sure that the TV had something child appropriate on, but after 20 minutes of their phone and tablet nitrogen narcosis, I said to myself fuck this, and put on The Big Lebowski. No one even noticed anyway, all of them afflicted by Rapture of the Geek, I guess. No conversation, no toys- only more electronics as gifts, no wrapping paper around, just gift bags, or anything to assemble...just, a seismic shift in what I remember. Guess I was looking for some tradition and old timey feelings, since I thought I had bought it a couple of times in November hospital stays. A visit from The Ghost of Christmas Present, most likely. And definitely future...
our gathering didn't have the devices out but no one really laughs much and its like everyone can't wait for it to end think we've just known each other too long that and politics thanks politicians
Very apt post, brohim. Your experience yesterday was Thanksgiving for us about five years ago - the wife and I swore it'd never happen again. So far, so good. No devices and no filming everything... we took some photos of course and I've got 15 seconds of my oldest on her inline skates. Otherwise ... it has a 1955 feel down here. I put together my son's tricycle, assembled a couple of other toys for my older daughters; then I spent the last two days watching them ride rollerblades and bicycles around the driveway. They are doing jigsaw puzzles & playing on trampolines and learning how to play the kazoo. Pretty old timey... And it makes me very happy. Sorry you didn't get that experience but have hope. Maybe next Christmas.
Actually, I'd like to find an original pong tabletop game like restaurants had in the 70s. I recall Chris & Pitts had one of those. We thought that was about as new wave as shit could get.
Hope everyone had a good Christmas. Not sure if it's a part of getting older but each year seems faster than the last.....how the fuck is 2022 about to be here?
do you remember matt & tony’s sandwich shop on victory? used to love that place in the mid/late 70’s then they just disappeared… until… so i’m heading out to a lair event at diablo’s and there it is… some 30 years later… in chatsworth i know… cool story bro
