The pitching is fine 99% of the time. It's the bats and defense.

Maybe Matt will rejuvenate the offense when he comes back... and they get injured again.

There's a lot of truth there for sure. Cap gave up what, 3 runs in 5 innings against a good lineup? That's not been a problem for us in the recent past and is probably pretty typical of a #5 in the rotation.

Puig is really struggling and that's kind of big because he seems to be our spark plug a lot of times. The other guys need to step up. Hanley looked like he was really expanding the zone today, trying to do too much. I didn't think we'd miss AJ's offense so much, but his slump has kind of ruined the 2nd half of the order. Ethier seems to be a little lame lately too.
Hell even Uribe didn't hit today....that's news.
We obviously can't count on Skip, Hairston or Punto to carry us and if we are, we're screwed.

It seems like our rotation is out of sync with the rest of the world's to me.

Peavy is a beast at Dodger Stadium, this was just our time to lose a series. We are quickly becoming too spoiled and too hasty lately because of the success of the team. Relax. Now if we struggle against the Cubs and the Pads then worry.

Well they were pretty good in the Major leagues though. If they are brutal, then what the hell is Capuano's?
I don't get how 3 runs in 5 innings is OK. It never has been, and never will. What does that figure out to be? 5+ERA? It sucks. just like the majority of the time when League gets the ball. It's simply horrendous, whether we are hitting or not.

I don't know very much, but truthfully, I don't see DBB leaving Capuano off the post season roster.
League is even less sure, but you never know what "hunch" may take precedence. The guy is almost toxic.

This was probably already said, but this series meant absolutely NOTHING... if we go to the WS vs Boston, games 1 & 2 will be against CK and Greinke, 3 vs Ryu (who had 1 bad inning) and 4 vs Nolasco (who crushed them pretty bad)...

and we should have Kemp in the lineup when playing in the AL...

    I like our chances...

I didn't say it was ok...just that it's typical of a #5 to do against a good team. Look at what we've done to some lower end pitchers this season. He's our worst pitcher no doubt. And Fife has been terrible lately, so whatever he did in the majors is not indicative of what he's done lately...and against minor league hitters.
Point is we don't have a better option at the moment and we have to keep Fife in the minors for some depth anyways. We can't just cast Capuano aside in case of an injury to one of our rotation guys. If one of them was down, It'd be a catastrophe as it is. We'd have Cap AND Fife in there.

Cap's not going to cost us a playoff spot. He will have some good games more than likely.

Yeah, I guess that makes sense.
With age they say, comes wisdom. man... you be wise.
I'm just tired of being behind right away. First, second inning...suckitude.

No doubt, it sucks being runs down instantly and I fear it sucks the life out of the offense straight away(<-I speak British English now).

The thing is, Cap got out of the 1st with 1 run(even with that bullshit missed call at 1B), and kept them in the game really through 5(was it 3-1 still?). Ryu was the one that put up a 4 spot...and man that is a mountain to climb when you're facing good pitching and you have to wonder how the players react to that when they bat.

We have to pray our rotation stays healthy though, Nolasco is the bottom guy I'd want to start a post season game. Fife or Capuano would be scary as hell lately.

I agree with you and for the playoffs it should be
    Kershaw
    Grienke
    Ryu
    Nolasco
    ... step and repeat...

everyone else is a reliever of one duration or another

I think I'd put Nolasco ahead of Ryu in my hypothetical playoff rotation.
