Don't care what happened to Stras and what the Nats did...it's as different as night and day. He was overused by a rookie manager who threw him out there and left him out there too long, too much and way too soon, because the team was plummeting fast. And he was deperate to try anything to appear like he was truly "the heir apparent to Joe Torre"; and what could have be a spectacular talent may never bounce back. This kid's no giant.
Apples and oranges. I find it amusing that Mattingly is being talked about like he was Walt Alston or somebody else. Man, short memories.
If he's back in July, and throwing like he did, then thank you, whatever diety. We'll see...I surely hope so....but the Nats and Strasburg have zero to do with it.

Adding up about 6-7 million in 2012 for Loney, it's definitely enough for Fielder + a realistically cheap starter

Prince and Albert are going to be north of 200 million for 6+ years, hardly comparable. On the pitching fron CJ Wilson and Mark Burhle are looking for a contract north of 100 million.

Heard an interesting statistic on the air today and that is teams with 1 individual making more than 20% of the payroll has never won a championship in modern history.

hahahahaha Harang is getting like 10 million next year

It's very comparable. If we're paying all these guys 20+million next year we can certainly offer all of that to Prince.

If Wilson and Buehrle get anything close to 100 million I'll laugh my ass off

Yes 20 million but that is for 7 players not for 1 guy who could get hurt and we would still be 2 pitchers short. Those Wilson and Buehrle were reportedly number that they were seeking.

so you'd rather have quantity rather than quality? point is, we could have gotten Fielder and signed Capuano for something that's not fucking 10 million dollars. He doesnt deserve that much
that would be really bad for the team that gives either of those guys 100M.

I come back to that word deserve, nobody deserves that kind of money but it's what the market will bear. In a team sport yes I prefer quantity as long as it is for proven players and yes they are mediocre, but they are proven as well. We never had a shot at Fielder and if we waited for the market to establish his value we would only have 3 proven pitchers and young kids at all the back-up positions. Would you want that team?

Here is what I don't get.......every one said we didn't have the cash to sign Kuroda to a one year 12M deal. Well, we just spent that on Chris and Aaron.....WTF?????

I really hope this is a precursor to a trade of Bills for a bat, cuz Kuroda/Evolidi-DeLaRosa-Eveland > Chris and Aaron!!!!!

Neither scenario gives us a contending team for 2012, however it would be a lot easier for a new owner to build around a marquee player like Pujols/Fielder than a phalanx of uber-scrubs.

Hands down I would rather have Pujols or Fielder, over all these mediocre players we have signed. Our money management is absolutely atrocious.

ok i get it. you hate mattingly
but they didnt overwork him at all

his first 3 appearances were in the pen, and were 3 and 4 days apart

he didnt throw 100 pitches until his 4th start
next start after the 100P was picture perfect for a young pitcher. 7 IP, 1 ER, 99 pitches. they took him out

then he went 7 innings, 99 pitches
    then 7, 98 pitches
    then 5, 88 pitches
then 6/113. which maybe was high, but he was rolling after the first 2 innings
then he got hurt going 4/103. maybe a lot, but he wasnt being overworked to this point in his first handful of appearances

they didnt treat him any different than Kershaw and Kershaw was fine. every pitcher is different. i dont understand the hate with mattingly. he's not a terrible manager
