I'll stick up for FSU on this... 1, vitriol is a strong word. I'd call it criticism. And I'd call it fair. 2. I concur with "we" being offensive to both the ear & the integrity of the process. We is first person. He/they is third person. Use rhe proper fucking person.
not a fan of announcers using “we” they’re supposed to be professional and impartial at first i thought it was just watching other team’s home broadcasts, but i hate it even more when orel and karros do it that said, definitely like orel and what he brings to the games karros is a bit less refined, but i really like him being unafraid to call it as he sees it and/or call someone out i also like nomar and dontrelle, and think tim neverett is underrated as the lead guy and as i’ve said ad nauseam, kirsten is fucken horrible
How much of a shame is it, really ? Everybody's gotta be who they are, and if saying " we" is the way they express themselves and they feel that loyalty, so what? You've got a team that's been in the post season ten years in a row, and lost 90% of the time. I guess it might be under apples and oranges, but the relentless failure ultimately is much worse than saying "we". But that's in my world. On the other hand, perhaps they should be torn apart by a pack of ravenous wolves.
" Fucking homer" isn't vitriol ? OK. Sure. And really, is the first person or third person that important ? All the world's a classroom, eh ? It's baseball, for crissakes.
Vitriol is a word. It has a meaning. And your over-exaggeration here doesn't change that meaning, nor does your overreaction to some here who agree that homerism is a problem in sports broadcasting. And while the world isn't a classroom, I've spent 26 years working in several of them, so allow me to be the professional and dictate a few things that are factual. Allow me that and I won't contradict you at your vocation. So don't tell me what words mean and I won't knock the dick out of your mouth at your cubicle, ummkay? [now THAT'S vitriol]
No sense comparing Orel and Karros to Vin since they are not tasked with play by play or facilitating the broadcast. They are color (racist) commentators. Even the good ones are unnecessary, as are in-game 'sideline' reporters. A 1 man booth is best for baseball, but there is a limited supply of broadcasters (if any) that have the knowledge, experience, perspective, voice, and storytelling abilities to handle it. LA media seems to fawn over Joe Davis, and I admit he's as competent as any of his contemporaries, but he's just another generic 'announcer voice'. Guys like Vin Scully, Jon Miller, and dare I say the idiot Charlie Steiner actually have distinct voices for baseball and are not made in a factory. Plus, Joe's stories and talking points with his booth partner are cringe. As for being homers, baseball is now a regional, if not local, sport. There is little national appeal anymore. So the RSNs are going to play into that. I don't like it personally, but that's the model.
That sure is a crack grounds crew SF has there. Kapler always seems to complaining about some shit. Always. Guy's got some personality going on.
Yeah. Shaky as hell but worth staying up to see. Hearing those Gomorrah fans cheering their pipsqueak noise annoys me big time. Knowing the streets of that 'beautiful city' are smeared with human excrement and seeing those shit-eating grins on those faces really made that sweep much sweeter.
