    Reds Sign Dioner Navarro
By Tim Dierkes [January 16 at 2:33pm CST]
The Reds signed catcher Dioner Navarro to a minor league deal, according to the team's Twitter feed. He'll earn $800K plus $200K in incentives in the bigs, tweets Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Navarro, 28 in February, will provide veteran depth after catching tandem Devin Mesoraco and Ryan Hanigan. He's represented by MDR Sports Management.

Navarro hit .193/.276/.324 in 202 plate appearances for the Dodgers last year, catching 428 innings. He was designated for assignment in August. The Reds' other non-roster invitees include Sean Gallagher, Ron Mahay, Kanekoa Texeira, Clay Zavada, and Corky Miller.

That guy was overall incredibly shitty, but he did have some oddly clutch hits. I believe he had like 3 walk off hits and put one in the bay for the only run of that one Timmy-Kershaw matchup.

How come we didn't know he was bringing it @95-96 in the Nic leagues? or did we and just didn't give a shit ? The LAD appproach to signing players is most of the time a disappointing mystery. Incredible.
Somehow, Padilla and the Bosox seem like strange bedfellows...can't put my finger on it, but...

    because he signed or 1.5M
    Ned signed MacDougal for less

but your right about Ned signing players. the guy is an idiot
he rushes to sign shit while every other team is laughing at us

giving Rivera 4.5 looks worse by the day
lol Ryan Madson got 8M. Rivera is worth half of Ryan Madson? fuck Ned. I'm most looking forward to a new owner cleaning house more than anything. can't stand ned

I agree with the money thing you wrote. But Padilla, if he's right (and throwing 96 is pretty right), is worth way more than the Unit looking macDougal...Padilla can jump into the rotation almost at anytime and be effective as hell with that kinda fastball going. I just don't get it any more...never did.

^... This... in spades... get Oswalt... STAT!! $9M is a steal for his talent level...

Now about Manny... wasn't he suspended for 100 games or something? 2 strikes on roid charges? Has his 'retirement' served the penalty? Manny was a total flake but he's a pure natural hitter with hand/eye that most guys would give their right nut to have... And he can hit bouncing pitches for doubles all day long... I'd agree that the worst he'd hit would be .280 which even with his abysmal "D" would still be better than the current LF alternatives...
Oswalt and Manny and that alone changes the tone of the team and is easily good for 6-8+ wins.

Also agree that Loney needs to get it done this season or expect to leave... enough time spent on him.
And I can't stand thinking about having to count on Uribe or Rivera to produce in the starting lineup... Yuck...

this is why i would have rather had Padilla too. but we still have Hawk as the wingman. still, doesnt hurt to have 2
that extra 500K must be used elsewhere though (or not at all) > _>

cant wait for the nightmare to end

I don't think so. He'll have to serve that suspension if anyone does sign him.

    Understood. No homo.

Those were some tough years at DS, though - late 60's, early 70's (post Drysdale, pre-Garvey). When we did win, particularly against the Big Red Machine, it was epic. I have such a double header in my memory.

Yeah, once the Garvey-Lopes-Cey-Russell team arrived, we made a better show vs the Reds - no doubt about it. And with very good pitching - I'm thinking Don Sutton, here. And Garvey could be totally clutch with the game on the line. (I saw him at the stadium with a walk off vs the Cubs that was sweet - I was in the bleachers, too). I lived in Wash State during the 70's - but plenty of summers in LA.

Wow Gemco... that's reaching deep into the memory pile
I always thought that Drysdale was a fierce competitor but still a nice guy. But I'm a lefty so for me no one came close to Koufax. Talk about a #1, #2 combo!! Those were the day...
