Dodgers Acquire Skip Schumaker From Cardinals
By Zach Links [December 11 at 10:17pm CST]

The Dodgers have acquired Skip Schumaker from the Cardinals, a source tells Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times (via Twitter). Cards General Manager John Mozeliak recently acknowledged that the utility man was a trade candidate. It is not yet known what the Cards will receive in return.

Schumaker, 32, will earn $1.5MM in 2013, the last year on his contract. The Twins were also reportedly interested in the left-handed hitter who owns a .345 career on-base percentage, but has struggled to hit lefties. The emergence of young talent in St. Louis ultimately led to Schumaker's exit after eight big league seasons.

Schumaker posted a .276/.339/.368 slash line last season in 304 plate appearances. The veteran has experience playing second base as well as all three outfield positions.

Same wOBA as Victorino last year, as Mike Petriello continues to point out. Pretty solid.

Good. We need some scrap and character guys to level the star studded squad. He gets on base and is versatile as well. Good deal.

knowing our history, lets expect him to have 500 ABs due to injuries all over the place... still, low salary, not much given up, solid RH hitter/backup OF/IF... not bad...

    agreed
him, hairston and even punto give us some depth off the bench
all are versatile and, if need be, can play on a semi-regular basis
now can we just dfa uribe already?

I expect that move to come soon, as the 40 roster is already full and they need a spot for Skip...

Skip hit from the left side my friend... The Dodgers and you guys are getting one heck of a club house guy... Skip was one of the reasons the Cardinals beat the Phillies in that 1-0 show down between Carpenter and Halladay.. Yes, it was Skip that pushed that runner over the plate with a double... The guy is solid and won't embarrass himself or the fan base..

His name is "Skip", for Christ sakes, and Borat wrote that he is a big prick. He need a to be on SF, with "Buster".
And Uribe is the guy that gets cut for him? WTF? Are you guys crazy?
After all that Juan did for us....ungrateful wretches.

It's funny you mentioned that. Him and his daddy used to demand the coaches call him skip. I will say this, the kid always said he was going to the pros and that his autograph would be worth money one day. I remember as a team we all signed each others baseballs one day and every kid put their first and last name. He just put "skip" with dollar signs by it. I guess he knew what he was talking about. :D

sorry... I thought he was a RH... then the move is not making THAT much sense, as one of the main points was a RH to play for Ethier and Crawford... I guess he counts as the LHPH... still, I think its a solid pick, but we still need a RH OF... interesting bench we are compiling with Hairston and Punto...

I had a best friend from the old neighborhood named Skip.
When you come back from the service, you all get married, move away.. blah blah....so years later when I ran into him, i was calling him Skip. He asked me to call him by his name instead. Definitely didn't want Skip, and I remembered that
I wonder what the psychology behind him and his father was with that. The dollar sign thing is curious, like a prostitute I knew in Germany, who had a tat down below of a dollar sign (not Deutchmarks- she knew where her bread was "buttered", so to speak) It's as good as any name, my nickname is still used, and not that different than Skip, and I'm old.
I was actually responding to the "big prick" thing you wrote. The guy actually does seem like a good pickup for us...but I don't now how much his autograph will be worth.

Don't have to apologize my friend... It's not like he is Matt Kemp and everyone knows everything about him..lol.. Skip can hold his own against left handed pitching if the coaching staffs just gives him the chance..

Being LH makes him a prime candidate to platoon with Ellis at 2B. Which in turn probably makes us a better team against RH pitching since Skip can get on base at a decent pace vs. RH pitching.

I love Mark elli, but i honestly see Skip taking his job for the most part.
