Not sure about Fangraphs, but baseball reference has Kimbrel at a -0.2 WAR. The only reliever lower on the current team is Bickford. Even Hanser has a higher WAR on the pitching side, lol. While looking at Kimbrel's stats, I was surprised to see that this high ERA is not a new phenomenon for him. Including this season, four of the last five years he's been over 4.00. Makes me even more certain that his days of being lights-out are long gone.
Of course Roberts will start three sub-200 hitters while Kersh is pitching. No surprise there as Clayton always seems to have the B and C lineups behind him. Okay, so that I'm not completely negative... Cody and Max HAVE made some better contact lately. Hope it continues.
Slater and Davis are a little worrisome against CK. Both have had success. Meanwhile, Kapler was finally smart enough to bench Belt (4 for 62 lifetime against Clayton, haha). But I would've liked Roberts to have given Trayce a chance to build on his HR against Junis last time, instead of Gallo starting in left. I hope Davey isn't enamored with this guy.
From a quick glance, a few things stand out to me. First, he has one of the lowest fly ball to home run percentages in the league among qualified relievers. Meaning the fly balls he does allow, are almost never home runs (only 1 this year). Second, his BABIP is terribly high. This typically means (and here's the thing that most advanced stat people hate to hear) "bad luck." A lot of the balls put in play seem to be landing for hits at a higher rate than the league average. Third, the amount of line drives he gives up looks pretty solid. It's not tops in the league by any means, but it's above average for sure.
Ugh, Clayton, you hung it. We should've scored more than one last inning. I can already tell the Gallo thing is going to eat at me the rest of this season.
It was a " gotta do something " move by AF after the Padres got the best deadline haul in modern bb history. Desperation, and it is an albatross around our necks, I fear. And Dave is the perfect ancient mariner to make it hurt the worst.
Truckin', got my chips cashed in Keep truckin', like the do-dah man Together, more or less in line Just keep truckin' on
Kershaw injury. Possibly the back again? Fuck! Well, regardless on when May's coming back, Mitch White might look pretty good on the roster right about now.
fuck you kapler and fuck your chickenshit team one fluke season and you’re supposedly a mastermind nah son, go sit in the tanning bed and pluck your eyebrows your vainglorious ckunt and fuck you garcia
Garcia struck out Outman and as he was walking off the mound, he did some gesture towards the Dodger dugout. Mookie who was on deck took exception and motioned come here to Garcia. Next thing Kapler's going ballistic on the ump and gets tossed. Edit: And I should add, it wasn't the type of "getting tossed" that Gabe would've preferred.
Rockies hit Musgrove pretty hard today. Good to see the Padres have to go to the pen early too, as the Dodgers did, in advance of tomorrow.
