    I still have my copy of Al Campanis' book, The Dodger Way To Play Baseball ...

    Poor Al. Guy was up late, he was already old, probably had way too much to drink, said a couple things about Black people that I'm sure he didn't really mean like he said it .... and now he's synonymous with old white bigotry.

    So be it. But I've read that book a couple times, and when I coached little league, we built sliding pits, and we put the strings up to make kids call strike/ball before the ball went through the strings, and we did the cutoff man drills and the covering first drill and the bunt drills and every other damn thing. It was a damn good book. Still is.

    Something tells me that most of this lineup has not experienced the Dodger way to play baseball....

    And Lasorda wept.

    I used to play a game that was just about sliding.
    When kids don't do something well i would make it into a mini game and act like a bully that needed to be popped goading them to play.
    Always one kid who wants to show off for the others and put me in my place.
    Voila!
    Now we playing Dodgers baseball!
    To an audience.
    Who don't know they watching a game.
    They just think it's two bozos fighting over who has better style while diving onto the ground without getting hurt.
    While they the clowns with the big happy grins being entertained.
    Everyone goes home happy.
    Circular jerking.
    Shit I think my bloodline must have carny in it.

    Al Campanis was the first guy to get canceled on television.
