I'm going to keep this site up. If you guys want to stay here and post and enjoy it, that's awesome and I'll still be here and try to make it more stable. If you guys want to go do something else, I'm not going to be hurt...you should do whatever is most fun for y'all.
This is the message I was telling people that got one or two guys a little upset. Those few do not want to hear anything from me and want to hear it from you. You told me in our previous PM's that you had given me all of the admin permissions here and with the updated site but i could not create an account over there to even begin to customize things and add stuff. And like diablo and some of the others i too had the instinct to not want to bother you since i figured you were travelling. I thought maybe when you came back you could make me an account and give me the password so I could troubleshoot it from inside and see why people cant make accounts. I actually thought i sent you that message at some point but I must have never finished hitting send. But then the site started to crash a lot and some members were worrying about the future. I had been working on the forum for my bookstore and my thought was it would just be soo much easier if we started the Dodgers forum from scratch with our own code. Stuff I could work on at any time to improve as I learn to add any of the games and features we couldnt in the past because the tech was not there at our budget and skill level. That has all changed now with the LLM's obviously. We could get rid of having to pay for a Xenforo license that would only really be worth it if we were taking advantage of all of the various applications and styles available in its sorta expensive marketplace. All of those systems are a money spending treadmill as you have to pay for new versions everytime the main software of the forum upgrades and the applications and style dependencies break. So i mocked it up and parked it behind a domain for another project im working on, with plans on buying a dodgers related domain once enough of you guys (including you Craig) were united over the idea of moving. And I started sharing that information with the community when they started to worry about all of the recent issues. I also sent you a PM letting you know what I was doing. Do I have a want control as you said @TAFNAC , yes.... hell yes. Only so that we can make DSP better for everyone. Plus have it be cheaper to run and easier to maintain and even improve. And its not like i want to destroy DSP in any way. On the contrary if we move the Dodgers centric section to its own domain we could then go back to develop DSP as a local sports news and opinion aggregator as I wanted to do in the past or a sports social media slop aggregator if thats what yall prefer. There are plenty of things that can be done with the DSP domain to help feed the Dodgers forum. Like @harkeyed said the Dodgers are in for a golden age and a site dedicated to just the dodgers and dodgers fans can be made that is better than the ones already out there. We have the dedicated and talented people here already and more that would come back once we send them a newsletter showing them what we are all about now. We need to be united and everyone get over their petty differences. Then we can expand DSP to be a hub for not only the Dodgers forum but also one for the Lakers since they might be getting ready to enter into a new generational run as the Lebron era comes to an end and the Lukashow brings in young fans. The point being to build something good so people will come. And then decided to stay because they enjoy the strong flavor of our community. Not just because we are not PC but because we know how to be strong without being overpowering. Thats where I have to learn to be less overwhelming as you said before. I come on too strong sometimes (all time time) when I have a motivation that is difficult to really explain in words without dropping a dump of info on your head. I always know you are good with whatever the people here wanna do and I know you know my intentions are good. The rest of us have to get on the same page with that same message. Plainly speaking I really do not think you have the time to do anything but do what you have been doing. Which is essentially keeping the site on life support, making sure its at least here, alive, in some form. Super important job and one of the reasons I wanted you to come onboard was because of your background. If I was gone you would be the most responsible hands on/take ownership type of personality here that could actually do the technical work that needs to be done. Yeah, you are right I do want control. So that I may do what you have told me you do not have the time to do. If you are willing to share it back with me so that I can make DSP into something more. Whatever decision we can all come to a united front with I am good with. If everyone would rather just keep things as they are then I will be good with that too. End of info dump.
sorry rube, but how can you be trusted? you disappear for over a year leaving DSP in the lurch, and then return without ever offering any explanation and act as if nothing ever happened if not for craig’s efforts and financial backing from people like diablo, thinkblue, darth and others (that i apologize for not readily remembering) DSP would have likely come to an end this forum stayed alive in spite of you, not because of you so while your chest-pounding might sound encouraging to those not in the know, it comes off a bit disingenuous and perhaps even self-serving but whatever
I don't know about others, but personally I would rather keep things as they are. I don't need the site to do more than it already does. I came from the ESPN forum that was a complete shit show, overrun by trolls, which made it difficult to just talk Dodgers with like-minded fans. That is possible here, and I want nothing more.
Well said. I recall the June of 2000 when I stumbled into the ESPN mlb boards and met such lovely souls as flea & psycho on the SD & SF boards. I can still remember the rancor & vitriol there. As you stated... a shitshow. If this place stayed as it is, I'd be fine with that. And if we get lucky & bring in a few new posters, great. But it's fine as it is.
