Last time I checked, Andre Ethier doesn't hit like Ty Cobb did. Ethier should be platooned and sat against lefties. All he does is embarrass himself whenever a lefty is on the mound. That's not the type of player you give an extension to.

Not trying to be smart but how do you sign a free agent even if they are a platoon player? Eithier is not under contract or team control for next year so you either want him back or don't. So even if he is a platoon player we ought not want him or any other role player on the roster?

I was just trying to think of an example. Penny gave us a couple good halves; but it's not like the dude carried us into the postseason either year he was significant for us. Importantly, the only thing we got from Penny was 0-1 in the playoffs. He was so bad down the stretch that he didn't even make a start in the postseason; he had to relieve... and then he blew game 1.

Right now it would take 10-12 million per to sign him, and until he proves that he is more than the Drew he's become since Manny left, it's just not worth it. I have no problem writing his name in the lineup because at the moment he is by far the 2nd best hitter on the Dodgers - but let's not pretend like that says much.

So he said to te media that they're "not his buddy" and then you guys (and about 80% of every other Dodger fans) conclude that he's not trying to improve, he's not being grateful for his $10MM, and that he's being a shitty teammate.

It's not about liking the guy, it's that why make a big deal over him not being the nicest guy ever to the media. That's it.

So what's the deal with this whole "he's not good with the media" thing? I don't recall him being a terrible media guy his first 4.5 years on the team. It's almost like he's doing it on purpose...

Looking forward to another season of tirades after strikeouts this season, lol. Get those 7 second delays going.

Still though, 2010 AE would be nice, though :)

Also keep in mind how excited and optimistic other players are to be able to start a new season. And here comes this dark cloud.

I think deep in his heart and brain, Andre wants to at least plant the seed that will get him a ticket out of LA, if things don't break just the way he wants them to. He can just shut up if he likes what will transpire with new ownership, or renew his malcontent stance if need be. Maybe, in his own self-absorbed way, he is brilliant.
But no matter what his motivation, the team, owned by Frank , the Skank, MLB, or whoever... they still gave this guy 10+ million after a down, mediocre at best season. If that's not support and reaffirmation, I don't know what is.
And someone might just remind him, he's not Eddie Murray. Not even his jock assistant.
If he should ever be, then he can validate playing the prima donna a little more acceptably.

Bills, Kershaw and Kemp got extensions and for the last year plus Dre has been hearing we are thinking about it.

We wern't saying that about Kemp this time last year and in fact it was Dre who was the darling son. Bills signing was not met with a roaring round of support by fans and probably if you had to pick the two players of the four most likely to have had a long term contract heading into the start of the 2012 season I have a hunch most folks would have said Dre and Bills. Wasn't Matt the identified head case heading into the 2011 season? Dre can see that Ned and Frank were willing to bite the bullet and sign Matt and CK but not him. He saw the same thing happen last off season when he wanted an extension and Bills got one. Dre is a two time all star including last year and played hurt. He was a hero with late game heroics and now can possibly be added to the list of Dodger core players to be trashed by fans and sent elsewhere. Now he is a malcontent along with a few million Dodger fans who had to endure last season. We have a lot of talent in our farm system who can replace his career stats. Give him a fresh start and get something in return while we can. Haven't we heard that before?

don't include me in the down on kemp crew
    i've always supported him
    even when he was struggling
i don't recall him flipping off reporters
and look how each of them handled adversity
    kemp worked his ass off
came in with a great attitude
    got with davey lopes
    and had an mvp year
    and dre...
    he's already whining
    grow the fuck up already

Kemp prior to seeing the light at the 2010 season was having a tough time with reporters. Dre isn't Mr. Warm and Fuzzy of late but the guy has been trying to sign a long term deal for a while now. Gotta wonder if he feels the Dodgers want him to walk.
