But Vesia not at all impressia...after the blast, puts at least two no.1's right over the plate, center cut, to the next batter. Got lucky.
Damn walks. All part of Snell's MO, but frustrating to watch. Treinen walked the tightrope. Would make a great pitch, then another not even close to being competitive. Pinning a L on one of best pitchers in the game is nice way to kick off the home schedule. Teo still has the knack in the moment.
definitely wasn’t as sharp as usual saw a couple of hangers he was lucky to get back kind of an ugly win but a win nonetheless
I think winning ugly is how you beat good pitchers. First time I've seen Skubal pitch, and gotta say I wish we had him. Love his mentality - wants to be efficient with his pitches, not walk anyone, and be a workhorse to the tune of 200+ IPs. It's been a while since we had one of those... someone whom you'd regularly expect to go 7 or 8 innings. I guess CK during his prime was our last one. I looked it up - Buehler reached 200 innings one time, in 2021. Prior to that it was CK five times and Greinke twice. Nobody else has done that over the past dozen seasons. I guess that's not something to expect this year if a six-man rotation is used. But still, Skubal being a bit of a throwback is refreshing to see. As fsu noted, the Snell we saw yesterday is the Snell we should for the most part expect. He'll run up his pitch count early, walk some batters, but usually will make his best pitches when he needs to. I'll give credit to the Tiger hitters - they were patient and found ways to get on. The only pitch that miffed me was the one he put in the dirt three feet in front of the plate that ate up Smith. In that situation, you've got to make the batter at least think about swinging. Anyhow, he's thrown 180 innings twice in his career, winning the CYA in both. Five innings like yesterday, or six, should be the expectation. Fortunately we have the pen to take it from there. We just need him to stay healthy, because in the years he didn't win the award, he spent time on the shelf.
