i moved from the lair to my house, turned on the tv to see kemp hit back to zito and leave two risp. decided that i was the problem and chose to not watch the game or hang here. went up and talked to my 90 and 2 day old mom for an hour. take one for the team since i clearly was holding us down.
my take is at least we didn't need another team to lose and back into the playoffs like the cardinals.
but thats not working. we just couldn't take it all the way home. had our chances and we let the hated ones eliminate us on dodger soil.
so close and yet so far. but we deserve nothing because we played like homos the entire second half. wtf was that dodgers? WTF?

i agree, but it hurts since this year its about as wide open as i have seen in my lifetime. dont know if that will remain true next year. on to the lakers and hop back in for the winter meetings.

At the beginning of the year, if someone told me we'd be fighting for a playoff spot at the end of the season and also had A-Gon, Beckett, Crawford for next year, Hanley, and Victorino I would've laughed in their face.

Just got home. Disappointed. Really sucks.

AJ hitting that HR and seeing the replay on the big screen of Ellis putting his hand in the air in triumph was an amazing moment.

I love this team and am grateful for all of the great moments.

But I am still very upset by how things have gone down for us.

The fans were amazing tonight. Loud as hell, on their feet, never gave up, etc. Did all we could to will this team to victory. Didn't work out.

Kemp really disappointed me. I still cannot believe Mark did what he did. He played phenomenal defense all year and was glue all year for us. Even did everything right offensively. But I still cannot believe what he did there.

I don't like blaming managers. It is ultimately up to the players. But Don Mattingley is a complete DOLT. Unbelievable. The intentional walks and sac bunt attempts among other things are just waaaaaay too easy to FIRST GUESS. It's as if he has no idea what he's doing.

Something tells me Juan uribe is somewhere in the dodger clubhouse smiling because he is obviously still a gnat deep down inside. Fat POS

If he's still on the team next year then there's no justice in this world.

That's another thing I forgot to mention, JUAN URIBE was our fucking starting third baseman for months! Let that sink in a little.

I agree with this. I had no positive expectations for this team this season. The most interesting story to me was going to be the sale of the team which was a win in itself. To be relevant in game 161 is a pleasant surprise but call me greedy once we got here because I did expect more when it came down to it. Good season, could have been better but 2013 looks brighter than a muthafucker

Don on the intentional walk to Pegan: "Obviously if it doesn't work, people are gonna question it, but that's a move you make every time"...um...no Don. People were questioning it before Scutero even got the hit. It was a dumb move from start to finish. And you've been doing it all year. You're an idiot in that regard Don. The intentional walks and over use of the sac bunt have killed you all year. You never learn. And you screwed your team hard tonight. Shame on you for being such a horrible manager tonight.

i dont see why people had trouble with the intentional walk. it made perfect sense. the bunt i despise. but dons flexibility was screwed by misty mays husband getting hurt in BP. ultimately its all about RISP. the team failed to get 1 hit. just 1. and its almost like thats how it was gonna end all along. for the entire all star break that was the comment you could put on the dodgers. just get 1 damn hit in. didnt happen.

My problem with it was that at the very worst, Pagan would've made it a 3-1 game. By putting a speedy runner at first though, it allows him to easily score on a ball down the line or in the gap. I personally didn't have too much of a problem, mainly because Pagan and Scutaro are on PEDs, but you have to expect things like that. While walking Pagan made more statistical sense, it didn't make much situational sense when you factor in Pagan's speed.

    Hopefully that makes sense. Lol.

But I agree, that's definitely not why we lost this game.

No it didn't. Any time you give someone a free base, it should be well calculated. He is way too trigger happy with intentional walks, and has been all year.

Angel Pegan has been in a slump for like 2 weeks. Scutero is on fire, and is hitting nearly .400 with RISP as a Giant. He's a killer. Driven in 9 runs against us. Pegan possibly getting a hit isn't going to be a dagger. That's not where the game is decided. You pitch to Pegan there. Not give him a base for free. I think people underrate how dumb it is to just put guys on base. Because they end up scoring.

The notion that just because there is an open base and a L/L R/R match up, you automatically intentionally walk guys is stupid. Scutero is simply more dangerous, and you put an extra runner on for him. For free. Don has been burned on this so many times this year. I don't like intentional walks in the early-middle stages of a game.

If you have a base open to avoid Braun late in the game...yes. Especially when the runner at first is insignificant. There are times and places for the intentional walk. Don puts guys on base in the middle of games for matchup purposes it seems. And tonight, not only was the walk dumb in itself, you were trading off for a guy who's hitting .390+ w/ RISP.

Dumb to me. And it was an easy first guess.

On he subject of that play...did Wright miss his location badly? Because why the hell would they throw an outside pitch and have A-Gon playing 10 feet off the bag?

i dont think donnie expected a double. he just saw that he had owned him in the past. in every metric, scenario it should have worked. righty vs righty, owned him in the past, avoid a lefty who had played like he was willie may against us. the team had opportunities at the end of the day. which is at the very least better than not even getting people into scoring position which the team had troubles doing against scrubs the last month.

That's the problem though. You have to expect things like that. Especially with a hitter that's on a hot streak.
