Is your old data your 'precious" or are new posts the only thing that really matters?

  1. Lets keep DSP as is and be conservative and just try and work out the kinks.

    33.3%
  2. Lets wipe the server clean and start fresh with a software upgrade to be kink free.

    66.7%

    Yes.
Which is the point. If you wanted to be searched and indexed you would be at facebook or bleacherreport or whatever.

What if DSP was a sports page where people got together and say what they say and post what they post with the freedom of knowing that the majority of pages here won't be indexed by google very well and that the server and more importantly the links will be wiped every x amount of time?
We could do concurrent data wipes in the form of data pruning applications already within the software.
You can set posts to auto delete after a certain amount of days.
This can be set up for certain types of posts or posts by certain level of the membership. Maybe its a perk for members to have their posts autodelete, or maybe its a perk to not have them autodelete.
New users have to receive a certain amount of likes or views on their post or else it gets auto pruned.

Your hot sports take will self-destruct in 1 news cycle so it better be memorable.

    I wouldn't do it unilaterally.
Literally taking a poll to feel out the community.

Irish, notice that I didn't say "feel up the community".

Why would you want to blow away the history?
It will piss off some of users and is not necessary.

On the the other hand, I'm sure there will be no users that are annoyed by keeping the history.

It has a bunch a negatives and only one positive, and that positive will most likely be achieved by ungrading, without the need to erase all the history.

    I just want to say:

If all the threads are stickied, then none of the threads are stickied.

We have wiped a lot more history in the past. Which is a weak argument.
A stronger argument is that I care our constant new story better than our history.
Wipe is not necessary, obviously the room is split and that's enough for me.
But if we were to do a wipe it would not have to be a total wipe, the posts could still be saved as as cached posts. There is a setting that lets you do something to posts of a certain age that no longer become searchable by robots for indexing. Only searchable manually using the DSP search feature by registered members.
That's not really a wipe but something lots of forums do to keep the forum lighter and less trafficked needlessly by bots which may include some resource hoggers.

    Those aren't mutually exclusive.
We can and should move forward, but we don't have to be like a terrible Disney movie and kill the past to become insufferable SJWs.

who would be upset by losing the history out of curiosity?
i mean some funny stuff and even some truth but we aren't exactly poets w a few exceptions
if Irish doesn't care i don't get who would tbh
not trying to push it one way or the other but its hard to see what actual value the history has
i mean Mouse can pull out the "fantasy plane crash" thread which btw i continue to find remarkably hysterical in retrospect
maybe those kind of things can be saved by the history guys?
i just think it should be an easy decision if its just about the past but thats me
time moves on and none of this was incredibly remarkable was it?

I genuinely like searching keywords like “Darvish” and “cunt” but I agree with you this is a complete no brainer, and i’m sort of amazed anyone is clamoring to save the mountains of miscellany

Love Seinfeld and all, but I always thought they (the creative team) patted themselves on the back too much for being "a show about nothing". There were up to four plots going on per 22-minute episode. Tackling the minutia of everyday life doesn't mean the show is about nothing. That show was about everything.

The show seems ancient now and yet it came out AFTER we won our last WS. Sad.
