I don't see it as marketing. I don't think a lot of the inner city kids want to play the game. Better opportunities in football and basketball. College baseball scholarships, unlike football and hoops are scarce. Very, very few full rides in baseball.

Offensively his skills are all there and his game is not based on being bouncy like an Amare. He is still as is a premiere center who can play old fashioned in the low post or run and around in the perimeter shooting 3's as well as being a great passer who can make plays in the mid range and high post. Defensively he has lost lateral quickness and agility to keep up with small forwards or guards on switches. He will improve some by next year but as he ages that may be a moot issue anyway because not every star center can be as mobile as a SF like the current lot. Before he was a great PF that could do SF things and C things. An almost unicorn type. Now he is a great C that can do some PF things well because he will still rebound at a high rate and get you a block or two a game just from skill and instincts.
Thats what the minor leagues are for. College baseball is more like a vocational college for white people who want to work as carnies on the baseball circuit.
