So Pete Rose was a "bad white boy"? How did Glaus, Clemens and McGuire come out of it? No better than the 20+ "Spanish speaker or Black" suspected PED users, right? I'm not buying the race card thing in this...unless of course he gets away with this.
If this sticks, Baseball will gain more credability as a fair governing body that it may have ever had before. Punishing a recent MVP and "good White boy" and seemingly an all around great guy. If they let him get out of it or they simply fucked up in convicting him, they will look worse than ever, and Pandora's box will be wide fucking open once again.
I believe that within the framework of those who get caught, there is a way not to get caught. How does Pujols do it? If he's not a walking advert for illegal substance abuse, no one is. And as his body quits on him in the ensuing years, the possibility will increase.
He may be a throwback to Mickey, Willie, and the Duke, and Hank and The Splinter...guys like that...who were just great. But somehow, when you looked at them, they weren't prematurely bald, nor did they move and have that special bulkiness Pujols has (and the rest of them with the look like McGwire, etc.), or an Arnold brow ridge...and only a select few know his genitalia, I would imagine. Did their hat sizes change or their shoe size?
Chris Rock said, when asked about steroid use, "if a guy came up to me and said you're making this money now...if you take this shit in your ass, you'll be making 15 million a year! Would I take it? Damn straight I would! Where's it at" ?
Braun was making beau cuop money already...why would you risk it all?
I guess for the same reason Manny did....
I think you're confusing my point, or maybe it's my fault and I wasn't clear. The *good white boy* effect already happened--they covered this up for 2 months. Clemens, McGuire--who never got caught using anything by the way, and Glaus were all outed pretty much right away. Clemens via the Mitchell Report and Glaus because the dumbass had steroids sent to his house.
And, if we're being honest here, Rose and Clemens were definitely *bad white boys*...
I agree BUT there could be a flip side to this. Braun's camp may be successful in villainizing MLB in all of this. They can pull a Lance Armstrong, for example, and discredit the entire process and the validity of the samples--how they were stored, who monitored this, etc. They can use his 2nd test to support their argument--that's assuming of course the 2nd test happened fairly close to the first one and was taken by any kind of reputable organization.
The thing that gets to me in all of of this is that Braun came up with Steroid testing in the minors already. He's played 5 years being tested without issue and there's nothing about 2011 that stands out from his previous four seasons really. The whole thing, IMO, is really f*d up...
I agree with this. Pujols, I believe, will be outed at some point. So that will beg the question: How the f* did he get away with it for so long?
I remember watching a roundtable discussion a few years back, and Mike Schmidt pretty much said the same thing.
Irish, are you saying Mike Schmidt is funnier than Chris Rock? Or gets his material from Schmidt?
"The comedy stylings of Mike Schmidt"? Hibernian, please....
well, in his time...
its not purely a racial thing man, its never cut and dry like that
yeah if they treat him like everyone else then there is nothing to talk about
but so far he is already being given a pass in the hearts and minds of way more fans and media than past ped users
besides, he isnt white
i dont care about PEDs in baseball, never have, never will... its not my body and i believe that when someone tells you what you can and cant put in your body and subjects you to invasive blood/piss tests like this for employment purposes, that they are violating your constitutional rights
the founding fathers would not approve of making people piss in a cup
in my opinion of course
besides, there are some positives (no pun intended) of steroid use...
Braun is white just like you stating you are Mexican...or something like that you said. Everyone thinks calls me white...yet I'm 1/4 Syrian. I just look white and live in the "white" world and culture, I'm not Muslim, I don't speak a lick of any Arab language and don't practice any bit of Arab culture existing in my life...so yeah, I'm white, not 3/4 white. It's about perception of the masses isn't it?
As far as Braun getting a free pass so far, I don't see it...yet. This thing has just opened up and right or wrong it seems most have him already convicted, myself included. I simply believe the old saying if "it's to good to be true, it is." To me, Braun hits far better than I think he should. He isn't some big fast dude like Kemp, or a big man like Fielder, he's just not that impressive looking to me. Similair to how I thought , Alfonso Soriano, Steve Finley and Luis Gonzales.
If it makes you feel better I wouldnt call you white I would call you a terrorist..
Ryan Braun Tested Positive For Prohibited Substance
By Mike Axisa [December 11 at 3:55pm CST]3:55pm: Yahoo's Jeff Passan reports (in these five Twitter links) that baseball's new CBA contains a provision stating that if a player tests positive for a banned substance, the drug will be publicly announced. The Players' Union could contest the announcement, as Braun's test was conducted under the old CBA, which prevented that information from becoming public. Experts say that false positives are nearly impossible under the carbon-isotope testing performed by WADA. His source also confirmed that MLB has never lost an arbitration case with PEDs. Ultimately, Passan says it's unlikely Braun's appeal will stand, and we'll probably learn which substance Braun tested for.SUNDAY, 11:50am: Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports hears from a source that Braun tested positive for a prohibited substance, not a performance-enhancing drug (Twitter link). Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel was told the same thing, with his source saying there's "never" been a result like this since MLB's drug testing program began.
im sure meth has already been an issue, i mean dont they have lots of minor league teams in the desert areas of california?
hmmm, something thats never come up before, peyote?
i wonder if they test for shrooms or things like LSD in pro sports?
i doubt anyone but doc ellis could maintain on lsd or shrooms in a game. it would probably be pretty obvious.
its been made a big deal in the past that ryan braun is jewish
when i was growing up being jewish was not the same as being white in america
but this has changed as we know have done a complete reversal on how we feel about jewish people
we have gone from being assholes to jews (one bad extreme) to kissing their ass in every way even against our own interests (also bad extreme).
if a black, an arab, a mexican, an asian, a white, and a jew all get in this kind of trouble the general feeling of the nation will be more forgiving and give more of a benefit of the doubt to the races in the reverse order i just posted in this sentence.
when blacks mess up they get no benefit of the doubt
when jews break the rules we have an in built guilt associated with our past feelings and treatments of jews that we naturally tend to cut them slack when they make a mistake
there is a backlash to this of course, and its the same backlash that first started when white people got tired of how affirmative action was making racism against blacks WORSE instead of better
our cultural but unspoken affirmative action towards jews will only give fuel to the racists who truly hate the jew and their efforts to convince others that they should hate jews as well
thats what a backlash accomplishes in this sort of things
a large percentage of americans think that Obama is the president because of affirmative action
so now that he is the president because of affirmative action that then its no longer needed
because racism in america is finished, no more
that kind of commentary occurs in people who hate blacks, and its spreads because it has a kernel of truth behind it
and thats the knowledge that the vast majority of people who we consider racists dont really wish to the death of the other race, but they can be easily manipulated into being part of a racist movement because of some things that are true and they dislike enough to just go with the rest of the mob
today you can talk like this about blacks, you can debate affirmative action, the role of reverse racism, and many other plain truths that a decade or so ago you couldnt without being called a racist by most people in our culture
but now try to have that conversation about jews
not without being called an anti semite racist nazi, etc...
