The original wasn't a "Giants rhyme". It was "Spahn and Sain and pray for rain". The Giants were just cheap copycats.

Soon enough Urias is just going to be better than somebody on the pitching staff to hold him down, weather it's a starter or reliever, he just needs to pitch for the Los Angeles Dodgers cause he's one of their best pitchers in the organization.

Personally if Stripling has another 1 or 2 meh starts, I'd just pull the trigger. If their plan is to burn through his innings early in the season and put the shackles on at the end, at least let him get those innings in the majors. Maybe he can start until Ryu/McCarthy/Anderson get healthy and or show they can be effective and then you can throw him in the bullpen in the 2nd half. Plus, fuck it I need something to get excited about, this team is boring the fuck out of me right now.

^Chris Sale, Sonny Gray, David Price are just a few of the pitchers who started out as bullpen pitchers before they became starters. Julio should be eased into the rotation, end of story.

Only thing I don't like about Urias in bullpen is that it won't stretch him out like he needs to be this year. If he stays in the bullpen, does he get to over 100 innings this year? Can't continue at this pace of never having him throw over 100 innings cause then it'll become a nightmare of having to do that process when he's in the big leagues and he won't be ready for another like 3-4 years

    agreed
depends how long he stays in the minors/how many innings he pitches there
but imo to call him up how and use in the pen is less than ideal
sure he could help the ineffective relief corps
but the kid is used to starting and, as doyer alluded, he needs the innings count
if there plan is to keep him fresh w/less innings to use in the postseason, meh idk

Jose De Leon made 2016 debut Tue; FWIW, not listed among OKC probable starters thru Thu. (2 days ago, was listed for today; Bolsinger added)

With his 145 or so remaining innings, he could just about make it through the end of September.

The Andrew Toles reclamation project seems to be going just fine. He was a high pick by the Rays under Friedman, but some off-field issues led to his release.

Rays' Minor League Player of the Year as well one of those years, could be a decent trade chip in the future if he can stay in line.

They are going to limit his pitch count either way so why not use that ability he has in a short controlled role. Him being 19 and mature beyond his years I don't believe his growth as a pitcher will be stunted in any way, he's doing his thing in a very very good offensive league. Like I posted earlier this path is not unique to Julio, there is precedence.

I feel it is way too early to bring Urias in for a relief role on the big club. Yeah it worked for the other guys mentioned above, but they all had seasons where they were well above 80 IP for a season prior to the call up. I'd like to see him get another 3-4 starts where they stretch him out to 7 fucking innings and 100ish pitches before they do something like call him up to try to be a top flight pen option. I just don't like the idea where he can come into a situation where he is going to have to worry less about refining his secondary pitches and building up his arm strength at the age of 19. Ideally he could get 80-90 IP as a starter in MiLB, then come in for the second half of the season and get another 20-30 out of the pen in 1-2 inning spurts. I'd rather see Cotton or Anderson get a taste first as both seem destined for BP roles anyway.

I'm watching Urias pitch and I'm trying to be rational and conservative about my excitement to not spiral into depression if something bad happens with him.

    But it's hard
