We could have lost Kenley and Turner and you would have had much more excitement.

I was in favor of letting Kenley walk so that would've been nice.

Back to the 40 man roster being full so let the speculation begin on who is DFA'd or traded when Kenley FINALLY is announced. Pretty easy to assume nothing happens until after Christmas to make that move.

Turner’s deal appears to have hit the books, though it hasn’t yet been announced. He’ll receive a $4MM signing bonus, with annual salaries of $12MM (2017), $11MM (2018), $18MM (2019), and $19MM (2020), per ESPN.com’s Jerry Crasnick (via Twitter). There’s also a $1MM trade bonus provision, though Turner doesn’t pick up any other protection against being dealt, per Jon Heyman of Fan Rag (also via Twitter), who also specifies that the contract is indeed official.

THANK you Justin for the team friendly 1st 2 years!!!!!!!

They all do, for tax purposes....

At least GuGGs doesn't contractually obligate them donate to their own swimming pool fund like McCourt used to do.

why pay anyone more than you have to?
    i like joc
after 2015 i said i'd like to see him hit around .250 [in 2016]
    he did that
but until he can consistently hit better than -- .125/.250/.219 last year, .178/.275/.324 career -- against lefties
then he's nothing more than a platoon player
he's not a potential free agent until 2021
so you pay him the minimum
sorry, that's just smart business economics

Well, it can make economic sense to extend a player pre-arbitration. But in the case of Joc, I agree I'd wait on him unless it was an extremely team friendly deal. The jury is still out on him as a player.

Not really. Its way smarter to lock em up.
Even if you don't want to keep them.

Based on the continued increase in salaries those figures are a bargain which makes it smarter actually but I do get that it may be too early for Joc to get extended. Platoon players are making a hell of a lot of coin lol.

i heard you the first and second time :poke:

    yeah
    i can see both sides
i just think joc is still a work in progress
    but if he keeps learning/improving...
love his desire to improve and make adjustments
wish puig had the same motivation

Platoon players that bust up right handed pitching are getting that coin, they get a lot more ABs than right handed bats that handle left handed pitching, have to differentiate the two.
If Joc was on the wrong side of the platoon, specializing in hitting LHP, it'd be easier to dismiss him.
However, he's nearing 4 win territory with a 129 wRC+, so he's currently one of the 7 or 8 best CF in all of MLB, even with varied levels of skepticism about where he is now and where he projects to go.
    Should they extend him now?
I don't see the rush, but IMO, even as a guy who was in question this time last year, he's flashed enough in the majors to be approached about a contract..if he were a free agent I think quite a bit of teams would buy in if they had the chance.
But he's not, so there you go, he's locked up regardless.
I think it's more of " there's no need to extend him now " than say " we don't believe in him, so no "
But who knows how LAD feels about that behind the scenes, they may not feel like he's mature enough yet..there were whispers about work ethic inconsistency before this last season, which he sort of put to bed with all the work he put in to improve, he was better defensively as well.
The deals for Herrera and Inciarte, we also have to highlight the teams they play for..a couple of rebuilding/losing teams with ample payroll flexibility, but also sort of a need to tab their young franchise guys and build some goodwill.

Yeah, I think with Joc it's just a matter of price. The Dodgers should at least exchange numbers out of due diligence. But it's low priority. I'd put buying out Seager's arbitration as a higher priority.

    The latest:
    Darren WolfsonVerified account‏@DWolfsonKSTP
Dozier update: told LAD still very much in it. Here's the new wrinkle: STL very much in it, + Nats & Giants remain in dialogue. #MNTwins
    --------
I will be very disappointed if any of those teams were able to get without subtracting significantly from their big club. Maybe STL could do it for Reyes, Luke Weaver and Harrison Bader (Heh). But the Nats don't have much after Robles (who is very good) and Fedde, and I can't see them giving up more young talent after giving up Giolito and Lopez for Eaton. For SF, it's Arroyo and Beede, but they could spin-off Panik in a 3-team deal to send more young talent to Minnesota.
