Very nice two days. Utley at 2B and 3B on Sunday's/getaway games makes a significant difference over scrubs like Kiké or Chris Taylor. Also nice to get a another bat vs LHP in Gutierrez.

Forsythe/Seager/Turner/Puig/Gutierrez/Grandal/AGon/Kiké that's pretty solid. Maybe even Joc or SVS if he sticks around and Gutierrez can play CF.

I know, I was just pissed when Rosenthal came out with that article this year right after his little clubhouse inside source was traded.

I still think a defensive ace INF, specifically Culberson or Taylor(currently on the 40-man), will make it.

    Grandal
    Gonzalez
    Forsythe
    Seager
    Turner
    Ethier
    Pederson
    Puig
    Gutierrez
    Barnes
    Culberson or Taylor
    Utley
    Hernandez/Toles/SVS/Ruf for the last spot.

As they stand, assuming they go with only 12 pitchers.

I don't see it, and I wouldn't say Taylor or Culberson are defensive aces. Toles deserves to be a lock, and SVS should have a good shot

Honeycutt values Romo’s experience, career success
by Eric Avakian | Dodger Blue — 2 hours ago

After a season that ended two victories shy of reaching the World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers re-signed their top free agents, and addressed other areas of concern. Most notably was at second base, where trading for Logan Forsythe filled the need.

As for their bullpen, the Dodgers’ search for a right-hander has reportedly led to coming to terms with former San Francisco Giants closer Sergio Romo. The Brawley, Calif., native elected to sign with the Dodgers over the Tampa Bay Rays and a late push from the New York Yankees.

Once made official, Romo’s signing will mark a homecoming as he grew up in a family of staunch Dodgers fans, and regularly attended games at Dodger Stadium as a child.

His arrival will also provide the club with another veteran presence and someone who’s played an integral part for three World-Series winning teams. During an interview with David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports Radio, Dodgers pitching coach Rick Honeycutt noted Romo’s experience and career success:

“Having the postseason experience being in a setup and closer role, he’s the type of guy who figures out how to get people out. He’s been able to do it in key situations, and he has that knack, mindset and confidence that he can make the pitches when he has to. He’s proven that over and over. You look at what he’s been able to do over his time with the Giants, winning three World Series and being a major part of each one of those, I think it’s really advantageous for us. It gives us another veteran in the bullpen, and hopefully we can be in those pressure situations and expect positive results. … When you have a pitch that everybody knows you’re going to throw, and still have the success he’s had, it’s pretty dang good. He’s got a really good [slider] and he knows how to use it. He’s extremely good at what he does. Hopefully things work out and we get to have Sergio on our ballclub.”

Last season, Romo recorded four saves and pitched to a 2.64 ERA, 157 ERA+, 3.80 FIP and 1.08 WHIP, albeit in a career-low 30.2 innings.

While Romo is coming off a season in which he missed much of the first half due to a flexor strain near his throwing elbow, the one-year, $3 million contract is a calculated risk by the Dodgers. Even when taking into account the deal includes incentives.

Mike Brito scouted Romo during the offseason and delivered a positive report to the Dodgers, which noted Romo’s slider having its usual break.

The 33-year-old explained his decision to sign with the Dodgers came with no resentment towards the Giants, as he didn’t have much choice but to accept the club’s decision to move on.

In nine seasons with the Giants, Romo recorded 84 saves with a 2.58 ERA, 147 ERA+, 2.71 FIP and 0.96 WHIP. He will turn 34 years old on March 4.

Don Brito with a report LAD couldn't refuse.
    NYY - " Here's your razor..shave that shit and sign here. "
    Romo - " Naaah. "

What I meant by "defensive ace" was a guy who can actually play SS without being shoehorned into the position for his bat, looking at you, Kiké.

As for the rest of it, I disagree, with Utley and Gutierrez they now have 3 bench players all but locked in (Barnes being the 3rd) that leaves 2 bench spots, if you assume the most days lineup to be the 8 that I had above (an OF of Pederson, Puig and Ethier) that leaves 2 spots overall. They probably need a RH bat to spell Adrian at 1B, and play some OF, that would be Ruf or SVS. That leaves the last spot, and with 5 OF, however nobody else who has played CF nor SS at a reasonably high level, that means Toles/Taylor/Kiké/Culberson, then it would be if they were emphasize the OF, do the they want a right or a left? As both can play CF.

Yeah I agree, and honestly it's gotta be Toles right? I think they'll try and go without Taylor for a little while out the gate but eventually you'll need someone who can play SS. I imagine they'll try Kiké a lot there in ST to see if you can kill two birds with one stone with his roster spot.

Shoehorning Kike into a position for his bat..seems legit.
    That farce has to cease.

Toles maybe starts over Puig VS RHP, or at least that's what's expected after reports that the FO believes Toles can lock up a corner OF spot.
That is, unless Puig turns over a new leaf and can actually handle RHP these days..hard-pressed to find anybody believing in that.
But that'd mean, taking your Utley/Gutierrez/Barnes bench into consideration, that Puig is the 4th bench player there as a platoon play VS LHP.
    Leaving 1 spot for SVS/Kike/Taylor/Culberson.
Considering the fact that Utley's on board as a guy that's starting quality most days, if Corey needs a day it'd be wise to just use Forsythe at SS ( who has at least some experience there) and to start Utley at 2B.
Another way to get Utley in the lineup and to take advantage of the quality depth there.

About as close to a perfect offseason as you could possibly get from the FO I'd say
