Do you see this as complaining? I don't. Like he said, he's letting everyone know where he stands, plain and simple. I think as a player and as the FO, both sides want to know where the others head is at, and the best time to do that is BEFORE you take the field.

Mattingly said before the meeting that he didn't expect a problem because Ethier is a pro, and he got what he expected.

Click the link and read the piece. He very clearly complained about getting 300ABs and the expectations. Bottom line, SVS does that job and does it well. Ethier shit on possibly the only role he'll have a real shot at.

Scratch that..I don't think he really has a chance to crack that CC/SVS platoon duo. He's basically waiting on a CC injury or Joc's failure..or the trade that he continues to allude to even though its time for everybody to start pulling in one direction.

If the new BB commish is so concerned about the small market teams not being able to compete with the fat cats, and actually does something about it in the manner of not letting the big guys do any international buying next year or two, then the fucking Red Sox getting Moncada is one beau coup move right about now, eh?

I did click the link and read the piece, before you posted. You are reading into it what you want to read, not what he is saying.

"I felt like when I get a chance to play every day, I put up the numbers they ask of me. For some strange reason, it just happened that coming off a good 2012 season, in 2013 they took games away. You start to wonder why that happened. I feel like if I get a good full year in and get the at-bats, it starts to add up. It's tough when you get 300 at-bats and you're expected to hit 15 or 20 home runs."

All he is saying is that he doesn't believe he gives full value with limited AB's. He may be right, or not. You may not agree, that's ok. But it is not a complaint. It's expressing a desire to play a full time role in order to deliver what he thinks he is capable of contributing. I see nothing negative there, except possibly his wondering why they took AB's away following the 2012 season.

Na, it is very clearly a complaint about his situation ( how he was put on the back burner ) 1st and foremost..the whole " for some strange reason " bit was a poor job of hiding it too..which you caught, but that's just part of it. He goes on to complain about those 300ABs and the expectations attached as well. It was an all-around plea to the jury as far as I'm concerned. SVS isn't complaining about his 300ABs or making pleas through the media as the season nears. Neither should Ethier.

If you're a gm or owner, having all your guys pushing to be starters is ideal. However, you want them to go out and let their play do the talking when it's time for everybody on the team to start pulling in one direction and that's what time it is right now. Timing is everything. He had his time to talk about it..and he did..and he thought he'd already be on his new team, but that's obviously not the case. That doesn't mean its time to re-up your story through the media though..not with the season on the brink. Sidestep the question. Its easy.

That whole " I'm gonna play the politician's role in the media " bs..Ethier needs to save it. Alluding to " maybe having to move on to get what I want "..nobody needs to hear that shit right now. It was cool back in November or whenever that was, but again right now its time for guys to pull in one direction and become a team. If something you say makes your manager say " hey, I'm not even going there with you guys " to the media..then you were better off not saying it. The outfield is obviously a hot button issue with this team...now our young, stud CF gets to be a part of the drama.

The more I think about it, I am in-favor of a draft for international amateurs, this doesn't include the likes of Puig, Abreu, Cespedes, Tomas, Ryu and Tanaka, you get the idea.

If I'm DBB, and because he's nice, I'd have 3 words for Ethier.." Are you done? " And I wouldn't even wait for his answer.

However, if it were me and I were part of the media doing the questioning..and Ethier starts in about how they " did him in the past " and all the ABs that he needs to be effective..I'd point to his base running error in St.Louis this " past " post season. You know, when he was gunned down at 3B..and I'd ask him if his lack of ABs had anything to do with falling asleep at 3B in an all important playoff contest. You open the book on the eve of spring training..let's get into it then, Dre. Why not?

We probably should've had that little bad news bears kid pinch running for Ethier at 3B..he looks pretty elusive in that clip Irish posted. Let HIM play.

For one minute, can you guys imagine if the Ethier of 2009 came back? Seriously, just imagine how awesome that would be.

    Sigh....

If you're gonna use Brown, quote the man correctly. He said Ethier is not a " loud complainer "..that doesn't mean he's not a complainer. And that actually makes sense because his game, or even his potential, isn't really large enough to approach it any other way than that. He also said that maybe because of the louder malcontents, his complaints flew below the radar last year.

Loud or veiled, those kinds of remarks can have an impact..where that impact is felt is anyone's guess. Maybe the clubhouse..maybe the front office. Maybe neither. Maybe both. Regardless, he had to go explain himself and his statement in length was singular focused. Its started out veiled and became out and out by the end, as he got to the point. One long complaint/plea through the media, rehashing his " journey " since 2012 and alluding to possibly needing to go to another team as camp begins and he tries to lock down a larger role and build camaraderie with largely a new group. Bad timing.

Brown does get it..because in his opening he addressed the problem..the main problem I have and have spoken to which is the timing of this. Ethier held story time at the start of the off-season, he took that opportunity and we applauded him for his timing..for waiting until the off-season to do it. Well, now he needs a pop on the hand because that time has passed. The off-season is a wrap. Story time is over. You thought you'd be with your new team by now..oh well..put your big boy pants on and let your play do the talking if you wanna stay. Bottom line.
