What would you like instead? Shields for ~16M a season would have been cool, but it looks to me like their acquiring depth.... and not just shit depth that Ned used to do. Depth that has found success in one way or another in the big leagues. Wieland, Hernandez, Barnes, Nicasio, Hatcher, Bolsinger, Liberatore, Kyle Jensen, Aardsma, Sergio Santos, Beachy, and McGowanamong others that were either signed or were not the primary piece in a trade that could make an impact on the big league level. I think if you look back to the Ned years you'll find a list with less than promising potential role players.

Not saying all of them are bad, not at all, just saying perspective is everything. Also, I'd trade half those guys for one Rafael Soriano type reliever. Potential doesn't win.

TAMPA -- Multiple bids are in on Cuban infield prodigy Yoan Moncada, and bidding is believed past $20 million, perhaps significantly so.
The Yankees, Red Sox and Padres are believed among teams in talks, with even the Dodgers and others seen as less likely at the moment. About a dozen teams held private workouts for the powerful wunderkind, including some surprises liuke the Brewers. Moncada's agent David Hastings said a few days ago they are targeting the end of February to have a deal so Moncada can get to spring camp not far behind others, and that seems realistic as negotiations are heating up now.

Just signed with Red Sox. Congrats to the Red Sox for winning the big boys competition for Moncado

Rafael Soriano is garbage and is also a douche. We'd be in the same position as last year with all the overrated "closers". If Ned were still around we'd have to trade actual humans for a shitty pitcher like Corriea or Fausto when Ryu and Anderson get hurt.

    Relax

@Joelsherman1: Keep hearing #Dodgers waiting to July 2 to spend on international mkt and are going to be very aggressive then

I said Soriano's type, but I'd gladly take Soriano. He is night and day better than Perez, if that is what you meant. I'm not defending Ned at all, I don't like him and was one of the first people to say he should be fired, just saying perspective is everything with things and, personally, I think that McGowan is garbage.

BTW, in your post defending this FO and how well they are doing in comparison to Ned, you use an assumption that the pitcher they signed this off-season, Anderson, will be injured, lol.

As much as I want Moncada, Alvarez, and other Cubans, it makes sense to wait until the next cycle. If we spend over the limit now, there isn't top tier talent to spend money on besides a couple of Cubans. Where as next cycle there will be more Cubans and all the other prospects. Sign all top prospects and Cubans next cycle.

Appears Alvares can't sign until July 2.

Details On The Runners Up For Yoan Moncada
    • The Yankees, Red Sox and Brewers were the three finalists for Moncada, tweets Sherman. However, the Dodgers may have offered the most money, but it came with a price; L.A. was willing to go to $35MM on the condition that Moncada wait until July 2 in order to sign. Doing so would have given the Dodgers unrestricted spending next period, giving them a shot at all the top prospects on the market without the Yankees and Red Sox to compete against. It’s also been reported that Yadier Alvares can’t sign before July 2, so the Dodgers likely could have made a run at both.
    • Indeed, Sherman tweets that the Dodgers are waiting until the new signing period begins on July 2 to spend significantly, and they plan to be very aggressive when that time comes.

I'm not really head over heels with every single move this FO makes, but you have to appreciate the depth they are creating. Yeah, McGowin hasn't been able to stay healthy, but he flashes nasty stuff when he is. It's the Dodgers job to put him in the right situation. Same with Anderson and a couple other low-key guys we've brought in this offseason. It's a lot more efficient to pick up a few of these guys like Beachy, McGowin, etc. instead of spending $10MM for out of their prime "closers" like Soriano or K-Rod. I just have a bad taste from Brian Wilson and my thinking is that the FO doesn't want to go down that road again.

Some good news for the spirt and soul of Dodger fans.

Dodgers Tickets Up 78% On Secondary Market After Active Offseason

    Comment Now
Dodgers tickets on TiqIQ is now $65.82. While that’s on the low side of the league, that price marks a price jump of 78% from last year’s average of $37 at Dodger Stadium.

Fans will likely keep Kemp close to their hearts, however, as opening games against the Padres on April 6 and 7 will serve as the most expensive home games on the Dodgers schedule. Opening day is slated for April 6, when the average price for Opening Day Dodgers vs Padres tickets is $182.06 on the secondary market, 176.6% above the season average, with a get-in price of $66. The following day, secondary market prices have an average of $122.01 and the cheapest seat is listed at $8.

Makes sense as far as all the reports that Olivera is their guy..no penalties attached to him. He's yet to be cleared, though, so we wait..

The nerds have been about flexibility and functionality all along. They were consistent here as they don't wanna be tied down.

How many times have you seen McGowan pitch? How do you come to that conclusion?
