Indians looking to trade SP for OF help.

Puig and Joc, you may start looking for some warmer clothes. I'd love to get some of the young SP that the Indians have.

Puig or Joc (not both) for Salazar or Carrasco.
Other scenarios in play with NYY and Toronto, with NYY, gotta think it's Gardner, and with Toronto, Revere or Pillar.

4:36pm: Eppler tells Fletcher that the Angels “have not hired Bud Black” and are still in the process of assembling their front office unit (links to Twitter). However, Fletcher notes that it won’t be a surprise if Black ultimately does land in the Angels’ front office, calling him a natural fit.

    hmmm, who could it be?

Dodgers starting outfielder being shopped in trade talks with Indians
by Matthew Moreno | Dodger Blue — 11 minutes ago

The majority of speculation currently involving the Los Angeles Dodgers is centered around their search for Don Mattingly’s replacement.

Los Angeles is reportedly set to decide between team director of player development Gabe Kapler and former San Diego Padres bench coach Dave Roberts, with a decision potentially coming as soon as Friday.

Beyond needing to hire a new manager, the Dodgers must also address multiple roster questions. Zack Greinke is a free agent after opting out of the three years remaining on his contract and leaving a gaping hold behind Clayton Kershaw.

There’s also a need at second base with Howie Kendrick becoming a free agent once the 2015 season concluded. Both Greinke and Kendrick were extended a qualifying offer by the Dodgers and as expected, both declined the one-year, $15.8 million deal.

Without offering specific details or identifying targets, Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman identified adding pitching as a focal point during the offseason.

The free-agent market of starting pitchers presents the Dodgers with several quality options, including Johnny Cueto and David Price, among others.

However, the Dodgers may opt address their starting rotation in a trade as they are one of three teams to have talks with the Cleveland Indians, according to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports:

The Dodgers were one of several teams to contact the Indians about right-hander Carlos Carrasco prior to the 2015 trade deadline. Nothing materialized between the two sides and the Dodgers later acquired Mat Latos and Alex Wood.

Friedman acknowledged last November the Dodgers would benefit from trading one of their outfielders. They didn’t, but then benefitted from the depth as Carl Craword and Yasiel Puig both spent a considerable amount of time on the disabled list.

Puig’s name has come up often in trade rumors as he’s signed to a team-friendly contract and is said to have worn on some in the Dodgers’ organization.

Andre Ethier is coming off a career season in which he hit .294/.366/.486 with 14 home runs, 20 doubles, 53 RBIs, a .366 wOBA and 137 wRC+, is under contract through 2017.

He’s owed $18 million next season and $17.5 million the year after. Ethier’s contract includes a $17.5 million club option in 2018 with a $2.5 million buyout.

Dodgers general manager Farhan Zaidi said one week ago Ethier fits into the club’s plans moving forward. Of course, Zaidi said Dee Gordon wasn’t being shopped last December, only for the second baseman to get traded the following day to the Miami Marlins.

Crawford is under contract for 2016 ($20.75 million) and 2017 ($21 million). Per Cot’s, he holds the power to veto a trade to two clubs. Moreover, if traded, Crawford cannot then be sent in a subsequent trade to the New York Yankees.

Given how highly Friedman and others in the Dodgers organization have spoken of Joc Pederson, it’s unlikely they’d trade the young center fielder. That being said, Friedman has routinely added the caveat he’s not operating with any “hard and fast rules.”

Alex Guerrero, a converted outfielder of sorts, projects as an ideal American League player given the designated hitter spot in the lineup. However, Guerrero does not fit the description of the everyday outfielder the Indians reportedly would acquire.

Outfielders Chris Heisey and Justin Ruggiano both rejected outright assignments to Triple-A Oklahoma City after clearing waivers in early November and are free agents.

As the article mentions, easy thing to put together is Puig for Carrasco (signed for 3 more years for a total of $19M, and 2 additional years that are team options worth a total of $18.5M) so that's 5 years, $37.5M. What a bargain.

Other teams in that discussion, but I don't think anyone has a player of his offensive upside to offer. Unless Toronto is offering Pillar, who is a defensive stud with just below league average offense. Have to figure NYY is offering Gardner, 3 years, $37.5M left on his deal.

If it's to get any of their top 3 starters I have to think Puig is the OF being discussed.

Gotta think so, if for no other reason than only he and Joc have value and Joc is the only true CF on the roster.

Honestly felt Kershaw was most deserving, led in FIP and Ks (by a mile, despite only a few more innings), really don't care at all about W-L and ERA can be skewed by score keepers. Only thing that hurt him in my eyes was ERA+.

I'd rather deal Joc and sign like Span than Puig unless it means getting Heyward, Gordon or Yo.

Carlos Carrasco? Why? He's been in the league 6 years and has a career ERA over 4.

I mean, yeah...skimming baseball reference it looks like he misses some bats but he isn't worth Puig or Joc. 28 years old, doesn't fare that well run prevention wise...just seems bleh.

To be fair I have never seen him pitch.

    So yeah.

That isnt a very good way of looking at how good he is. With that said, I would prefer Danny Salazar to him.

Dat FIP WHIP and those K's don't lie. Carrasco has the goods and not a lot of innings on that arm. A good number 3. But not for puig or pederson. Ethier, buncha $, and some mid tier specs.

Giants, Dodgers Have Expressed Interest In Shelby Miller
By Jeff Todd | November 19, 2015 at 9:11am CST

The Giants and Dodgers have “checked in” on Braves righty Shelby Miller, ESPN.com’s Buster Olney reports on Twitter. We already heard recently of interest from another NL West club, the Diamondbacks, though those talks apparently did not progress (Twitter link).
