There is nothing wrong with being an optimist.

    I agree. Wholeheartedly.
Just as long as those optimists don't tell others who aren't that they are inferior. And that they are lesser fans for not being optimists.
And that they are smart enough to realize that all the optimism in the world never won a fucking game for the Dodgers....ever. That's a ridiculous joke.
    Just like pessimism never did.
The Dodgers, and their record since '88, are the great equalizers, whichever you are. They lose, either way: pessimism.
Yeah! But they'll win one day (I think!): optimism.
And the SF Giants have a WS champion dynasty well in force: The Truth.
Whichever one it is to you...

You find no logic in this Irish? The kid may not be ready to start...some kids come up, and they play like they are part of the big club for years, and others find it troublesome and awkward, and still have some kinks to sort out in the minors. Panik was an instant fit, for instance, goddamnit.
Anyway, is they do off Dre, and Crawford fits his recent profile, or Matt steps on a catcher's foot while cruising home, or Yasiel, with his innate craziness finds an injury for some time, Joc will be back, ready or not. How well he'll do, I just don't know. But we'll need a guy who can do a little hitting besides walking once in a while.

    Damn right.

I am positive our new leader will regret not doing what Theo did.

I am positive we will not win the World Series in 2015 because we have the same idiot manager.

I'd easily start Joc in CF opening day 2015
He showed the ability to get on base. the hits will come for him (.235 babip)
    He was a plus defender
You also gotta factor in possible fatigue

Let the kid get more than 18 games and 30 PA
lol how do you ascertain anything from that sample size.

That's true....like ascertaining the hits will come, and that .235 bapip is something.
It's gotta work both ways , no? This 'sample size", right?
I hope he turns into Duke Snider. Just don't rush the kid before he's ready, since we have such a plethora of OFs, that's all.
    He'll be up.

Royals Make Qualifying Offer To James Shields
By Mark Polishuk [November 3, 2014 at 10:40am CST]

The Royals have extended a qualifying offer to free agent righty James Shields, the team announced (Twitter link). Shields has until 4pm CT on November 10 to decide whether or not to accept the one-year, $15.3MM offer, though it is universally expected that he’ll reject the QO in favor of a larger deal in free agency.

i kinda questioned if they would after his playoff showing, but maybe they saw his weak playoff run as an opportunity to take advantage of what might be a weak market for him?? i don't know. i guess they also credit him for creating a culture within the pitching staff as well. it'll be interesting to see what he does.

How will Dodgers' new boss Andrew Friedman change the team?

Friedman has inherited a talented Dodgers team and organization, but it is a team that lacks something, and that something is hard to identify. There appears to be chemistry issues, perhaps due in part to having too many outfielders, but moving Matt Kemp or Andre Ethier or Carl Crawford won't be easy given the money they each makes.

Will Friedman decide that Joc Pederson is the Dodgers' future center fielder, and decide that the future is now? Will Friedman determine that future shortstop/third baseman Corey Seager is so talented, he cannot be included in any trade package?

Chances are, Hanley Ramirez will not be re-signed by the Dodgers, and if he is, not to play shortstop. Catcher A.J. Ellis is also up for free agency. Some work needs to be done here, but with the right move or two, the Dodgers will be in position to get where they haven't been since 1988: the World Series.

I'd love to bring back Kuroda on a contract similar to Haren's from last year.

i think the royals almost had to do it
would have sent a poor message to their fans
kind of a win/win for them tbh -- if he stays, it's a one year commitment... if not, they're free $15MM and get draft compensation
but, much like us with hanley, i do think someone will overpay and/or pay more than the royals are willing to offer
however, a lot might depend on how quickly (or slowly) scherzer/lester/liriano (perhaps even santana) take to sign

depends if friedman's intends on pursuing scherzer and/or lester to go with kersh/greinke/ryu/haren
but yeah, if not, i totally agree
amazingly consistent; 3.45ERA in 4 years with us, 3.44 in 3 years with the yankees
and he was essentially, what... a #2 or #3 for them?
he would fit in very nicely at #4 with us if we don't go after the others
