Arbitration hearings for Joc and Alex Wood as the deadline passes. Alex obviously will get a raise but Joc could lose the hearing even after his stellar WS. At least there hasn't been a reported agreement according to the web. Hopefully they just haven't reported it yet so we can get the 2018 payroll figures up to date!! 32 more days until the pitchers and catchers report!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude, they are already starting up!!!!

"A bevy of Dodgers veterans worked out at Dodger Stadium on Thursday afternoon. The group included Justin Turner, Cody Bellinger, Austin Barnes, Enrique Hernandez and even Matt Kemp, the recently reacquired outfielder the team is expected to trade or release before spring training."

Wood gets $6 million from Dodgers
Associated Press — 4:37 AM PT

LOS ANGELES -- All-Star pitcher Alex Wood agreed to a $6 million deal with the Dodgers, and catcher Yasmani Grandal settled at $7.9 million. They are among seven Los Angeles players agreeing to one-year contracts that avoid arbitration.

The deals Friday added $24.1 million to the Dodgers' luxury tax payroll and raised it to $149,069,286 for 18 players with agreements. The Dodgers' tax payroll projects to $183 million, including $10 million for the rest of their 40-man roster, a $10 million charge for cash transactions in trades, plus benefits totaling $14,044,600. That puts Los Angeles on track to drop below this year's $197 million tax threshold.

Also agreeing to deals were mortally obese outfielder Joc Pederson ($2.6 million), utilityman Enrique Hernandez ($1.6 million) and pitchers Tony Cingrani ($2.3 million), Josh Fields ($2.2 million) and Pedro Baez ($1.5 million).

Wood was 16-3 with a 2.72 ERA in 25 starts and two relief appearances last season, when he made his first All-Star team. He had 151 strikeouts and 38 walks in 152 1/3 innings. The left-hander made $2.8 million

Grandal slumped offensively late last season while leading the majors with 16 passed balls. He started just two of the Dodgers' 15 playoff games and can become a free agent after next season. Grandal made $5.5 million last year. He can become a free agent next offseason.

Hernandez, Pederson and Baez each earned $555,000 last year, while Cingrani made $1,825,000 and Fields earned $1.05 million.

Like Grandal, Baez fell off in the second half last season and was left off the team's playoff roster for all three series.

Local media is touting the new Yankee " murderer's row", with the aquisition of Stanton, along with Judge and Sanchez and some players that didn't play the whole year...considering the HR totals of these guys, what they did hit and what they could again, think the " how do you pitch to this team" narrative being created now is legit?
It's not Koenig, Ruth, Gehrig, Lazzeri, etc., but imo, they definitely have a new Mantle/ Maris thing going, at least.

So Gerrit Cole is in fact going to the Astros for Musgrove, Moran (Houston’s #5 spec according to MLB.com) and 2 other prospects

I have to say some of these trades this off season
Like this and Ozuna and a couple others have surprised me. Very good players getting traded for what seems like a small return

All due respect to Cole but to me he's been a bit of a disappointment and now he's going to face AL hitting more often. IMO getting 3 specs and one of them being a #5 and a need at 3B is a good return. Guess we will be seeing a house cleaning in Pittsburgh, Cutch to the Gnats seems logical but ONLY if they trade a current major leaguer for him.

Doesn’t seem that logical given the Gnats farm system, but with all these teams giving away good players for pennies on the dollar, it wouldn’t surprise me

McCutchen would be a good fit for our team.

I wrote that they would have to include a current player on the 25 man roster to get Cutch. We'll see.

It is tough but sometimes it's not about trying to keep up with the Jones' but keep to the plan. Here's something about Cole

    According to Crasnick:

Cole certainly has ace capabilities, but he ranked 53rd among #MLB starters (minimum 250 IP) with a 103 ERA+ over the past two seasons. That might have put a crimp into the packages the #Pirates were offered for him.

    7:33 PM - 13 Jan 2018

He gave up a ton of HR's last year and the AL is full of boppers, making that switch isn't a piece of cake by any means.

A-Gon to the Mets pending a physical.
