I know Josh Garcia, the HC at Brophy Prep in Arizona... met him years ago at a Jesuit event. Solid guy, and he spent time convincing Andre to attend Brophy instead of St Mary's where Andre graduated. Major coup in Zona baseball recruiting. It's competitive as hell there.

Nice story about Teo's tribute to his autistic son.

Why Teoscar Hernández wears his son’s story every time he takes the field

DENVER — Teoscar Hernández wants you to get to know his son, Teo. So the Los Angeles Dodgers slugger provides a reminder every time he takes the field this season. As Hernández rummaged through his locker over the weekend in Denver, he kept showing off one piece of gear after another designed to honor his oldest boy.

Each piece is meant to let the 6-year-old know that his father sees him, and that he wants others to see Teo the same way he does.

“I don’t want him to feel like he’s different,” Hernández told The Athletic. “Because he’s not. I think, for me, he’s special.”

April is Autism Awareness Month, but Hernández doesn’t want to stop there for Teo, who is on the spectrum. What started with a custom elbow and shin guard has morphed into a full-fledged collection, including a new belt and a glove that he uses to shag fly balls during batting practice. More equipment is on the way, with each item featuring the autism puzzle piece, a symbol that originated in 1963.

“I feel like nobody wants to talk about it or for some reason they want to hide it,” Hernández said. “I don’t know why. … I just want to show the people that families and persons that have autism, they can be living a normal life. They can work. They can go to school. They can play sports. I just want to show that support and then let the people know that it is possible.”

Hernández hatched the idea this winter. It started with EvoShield, the company that produces his elbow, hand and shin guards. The company had never before included a design on a guard, Hernández explained, but it quickly came up with a multicolored puzzle piece pattern that worked. Then Hernández ordered a new glove for batting practice, a white Wilson model. Recently, Hernández received a gift — a new Pioneer belt that also featured the pattern.

The two-time All-Star kept it a secret from everyone, including his wife, Jessica. When she first saw the pieces, she began to tear up.

“It was a lot of emotions,” Hernández said. “We’re just trying to give (Teo) the support that he needs, the strength. So he cannot think he’s gonna be separate (from) normal life.”

Hernández wanted to showcase it with his actions. He hadn’t publicized his son’s diagnosis before this season but now wants to do it in a way that’s unmistakable.

“Clearly, when they see his arm guard and his shin (protector), they’re going to wonder why,” manager Dave Roberts said. “(Them asking) that question is why this is a good thing. Every time he suits up, to think about his son, I think it’s very cool — and not surprising.”

The gesture is subtle and fits what the Dodgers have come to expect from Hernández.

“It’s really special,” infielder Miguel Rojas said. “Teo is a human being more than a baseball player, and I will always say that he’s one of the best (people) that I know in the game, and it’s not just because of the way that he plays the game. It’s (more) how he’s around the guys. You can see if he’s that special with me, he’s gonna be even more special with his kids.”

Teo is the oldest of the three Hernández sons, along with Julian and Mateo. The couple first noticed Teo’s sensitivity to loud noises. Then they noticed he was especially sensitive to temperature in the bath. So during the 2022 season, Hernández’s last season with the Toronto Blue Jays, they took Teo in to see a doctor.

The diagnosis has opened Hernández’s eyes. According to the National Library of Medicine, in Hernández’s home country of the Dominican Republic, “access to information and critical data is more difficult to attain, or even non-existent” in autism cases, which in turn has made it difficult to get an accurate read on the total diagnoses.

That has only inspired Hernández further to spread awareness.

Teoscar Hernández’s glove supporting his son, Teo, will prompt a lot of questions this season. “That question is why this is a good thing,” manager Dave Roberts said.Fabian Ardaya / The Athletic
“Now that I’m around my son, I’ve been around activities with autistic people,” Hernández said. “I realized that I know a lot of people that maybe are on the spectrum and they don’t even know.”

Hernández couldn’t stop smiling when he spoke about Teo. He is just a kid who craves pizza, McDonald’s chicken nuggets and “loves trains,” dad said.
Teo has already set his sights on what he’d love to do someday: Jessica wanted to be a pilot, so now Teo does, too.

“He wants to fly around the world, travel, just to go to every country,” Hernández said. “That’s something that makes my wife really emotional because my wife wanted to be a pilot when she was growing up. That was her dream. … It’s really special. At least he can make her dream (come true).”

The Dodgers are doing their part to create a welcoming environment for Teo. The organization has fostered a strong support system for those on the spectrum. RJ Peete, the son of former USC quarterback Rodney Peete and actress Holly Robinson Peete, has been a beloved mainstay of the Dodgers’ clubhouse staff since 2016 after being diagnosed with autism at 3 years old in 2001.

In their own self-described effort to become a “destination spot” for free agents, the Dodgers have focused on families. That’s why, when Rojas’ father passed away suddenly this month, the club coordinated to have flowers sent to Rojas’ wife in Miami as part of expressing their condolences.

“I think that’s why they’re on the top of the list of the best organizations in baseball,” Rojas said.

The players’ family room at Dodger Stadium is stocked with Teo’s favorites, as the team has looked for ways to help him and the rest of the Hernández family feel at home at the ballpark.

“Anything that we need for my family, for the kids, for Teo,” Hernández said. “They even bring the pizza and everything that he actually likes to the daycare that we have at the stadium, so he can feel part of the group. That’s something that we’re gonna be so grateful for.

“This organization has changed our lives in a different way. Big time.”

it is really nuts how many Dodger pitchers are injured at any one time
and while i think most are true injuries i do also believe the team is overly cautious and can afford to be w all the talent they possess
other fans complain about it but last time i checked they are working within the framework of the rules
if all those guys you mention suddenly came back the team would be in trouble since that's like an entire staff of pitchers!

problem with the rules is that the rules are not made for people who want to be part of a framework
the rules are made because there are always people who think it is right to get to do whatever they want to do
and you either have to curb those people or let the favored ones get away with murder

'freedom' for a large group within humanity means the ability to not be stopped from doing whatever they want to do
so the framework of the rules does not matter to the people who are the best at getting what they want to get and doing what they want to do

because such people only look at the rules as a framework to find all of the possible loopholes and angles to do and get everything they want
you just have to get a degree in engineering or architecture or have the money to have someone who can read blueprints on retainer

because expert schizos already have the blueprints to the courthouse and are running with scissors
while most normal paper pushers havent even read the deed to their own home
and will be shocked when the rockhead psychos come bashing everything people thought they owned

which is where we are in the game of rock, paper, scissors
but the secret is that the cycle does have an end it does not just go on forever
after rockheaded psychos, after paper pushing normies and even after the schizos with scissors have exhausted themselves a new challenger will rise up with a spark
the thief seen holding an instrument of fire

so if you dont listen to the 'crazy' guy with the scissors then you better hide away all of your flammables if you dont want them to turn to coke and coal.
And double check your covalent bonds for thermal breakdown because holy pyrolysis is coming to town

of course there are always people who dont believe in the science of the chrism
preferring to put their faith on synthetic blends of man altered petroleum products

but one will make your face shine like golden fire
the other will actually catch fire and burn your face off

do you ever wonder if Dodger fans stop coming to this place because of me?

Dalton Rushing is tied for the most home runs among catchers this season. LOOK AT THE PLATE APPEARANCE DIFFERENCE!

    @Bnicklaus7
    Dalton Rushing is slugging 1.296.
    7 home runs in 27 at-bats.
We need to stop calling him a backup catcher and the Dodgers have to brainstorm some ways to get creative.

Max Muncy in 92 games since he started wearing glasses on 5/2/25:
    • .274/.397/.564
    • 26 HR
    • 58 BB | 73 K’s
    • .961 OPS
    • 164 wRC+
He’s legitimately just one of the best hitters in baseball right now.

The Dodgers have launched 42 home runs this season, that’s the most they’ve ever hit through their first 22 games in franchise history.

Dodgers starting pitching W-L record this year is 11-3. Remove Sasaki and it's 11-1.

Roki's first time through the order: .219 batting average against, .567 OPS, 1 walk every 10.7 ABs.
Roki's 2nd time through the order: .429 batting average against, 1.377 OPS, 1 walk every 4.0 ABs.

His agent needs to get him a sponsorship with Lenscrafters or some other eyeglass or optometry company.
Who needs Laser Eye vision surgery when a nice pair of stylish eyeglasses can make you millions of bucks at the plate?

A couple years ago, I really really wanted the Dodgers to move on from Muncy. I even was hoping for an Arenado signing for a bit. Max and his glasses (and his glove during the '25 playoffs) have made me eat my words many times over.

I have a question about the 69 million dollar closer, who is out for at least 3 months...then who knows how long it takes when he finally returns : he had free floating chips or particles in his elbow right ?
That's what the surgery was all about wasn't it ?
So when you give a guy 69M, doesn't he go for a physical which includes an MRI ? " Floating chips" don't just appear after 5/6 appearances...they must have been there for some time, no ?????
If he did get an MRI, must have the same dude as the one who did Jason Scmidt's, I guess.
Along with all the spectacular signings, there seems to be a healthy dose of that kind of clown shit at play, too.
Guess we don't talk about them.
    Y'know- like ABS challenges.
