Just wondering who y'all have the most faith in.

For me, Ohtani right now ranks about fifth or sixth on this list, and that's not right at $70M per year.

yeah, not impressed at all w Ohtani in clutch moments so far
seems like he's more interested in how he looks and swings at bad pitches when the heat is on
Mookie is my number one followed by Teoscar
i know T has some short comings but its been a while since we had a guy mashing in key moments like he is
wish we would try and negotiate a longer deal w him now but i was wanting that after i saw him early
really a joy to watch and his attitude is off the charts fun espeically that smile

He's a new and improved Hanser Alberto in the dugout. Maybe not going to pitch mop up duty in blowouts, but he's got a helluva better bat.

Ohtani AB...2 strikes on him...throw outside the strike zone on the right side...sticks his ass out toward d 1b, bend over, take weak flailing swing with mostly no contact...sit down. K.
    Rinse, repeat.
Success % for pitchers following this template: about 90%.

I could be wrong on this, because I listen to games a lot more than watch them, but I get the feeling that when Ohtani is hitting in a key situation, he wants it all with a HR, when a single would do just fine.

If you did have the visual on it, I think you'd come away with even if he did get contact, he wouldn't be anywhere near a HR in that body position. Imo, it more like he's trying for an Ichiro type patented hit to LF...but Ichiro didn't put his body in that ridiculous position.
    And he ain't Ichiro.

    6 votes for Teo???

Feel like there's a little recency bias there lol

Of the dudes that are our normal starters, he and Muncy have the highest k rates. I'd rather have a guy that is going to at least give me a productive at bat and make some contact.

well you're too late to vote since that was yesterday haha
i agree to a degree but some guys just have a knack for the big moment and T looks like one of those guys
looking back at his numbers he certainly drives in a lot of runs so he must be coming through w runners on
that's where i lose touch w analytics since it just looks at raw data and not the intangibles of the moment

I'm sure there's recency bias. Maybe (hopefully) if we run this poll at the end of the season, Ohtani would get some votes. Mookie was my first choice and I had to think about Teo vs Smith for my second, went with Hernandez because he just seems so loose up there. Hungry but having fun at the same time. Not necessarily looking to be the hero with a bomb, just letting the game come to him.

lol I voted Betts and Freeman yesterday! Teo didn't have any votes at the time I voted yesterday.

I fully agree on the intangibles, some guys are just built for the moment. It's really hard to measure that. I don't think Teo is actually that guy though. His RBI totals are going to be a function of our lineup - he's batting behind arguably the best 1-4 in baseball. He's going to have a ton of opportunities to drive in runs. He can fail more than a lot of guys and still drive in runs because of all the opps he gets.

I was genuinely curious about his numbers in the clutch and looked a little more in depth:

Teo has the 2nd most at-bats with RISP this year behind Freddie with 94 (Freddie has 98), which explains the RBI's. He's batting .217 and has an OPS of .783 and has also struck out in 28 of those at bats. All in, he comes in at about 6th with RISP. Decent compared to the rest of our team - Ohtani and Muncy (in his short playing time this year) have been atrocious :(

Surprisingly, Lux and Rojas have been solid this year with RISP. Rojas has a smaller sample size though.

i was actually referring to his career rbi numbers
but that is interesting comparison yet still it seems he shines pretty bright when the lights are brightest

Surprised by all the votes for Mookie. Would be one of the last people I want up in a big spot given his postseason track record….just too many bad memories for me of him failing in clutch moments. But that’s what makes this difficult…the lineup is full of bad hitters and once you get past Teo, it’s hopeless. I will go Freeman/Teo

Good point re Mookie. I wasn't really thinking playoff track record although I guess I should. I was just basing my picks off this season. Freeman seemingly has grounded into a lot of DPs, although he may be getting past that now with a couple of big hits recently.
