Twitter is not free speech. Free speech didn’t magically appear when Twitter did. Neither will it die if Twitter dies. Make no mistake. This is about Elon’s ego. NOT free speech.
I agree with this take, as I often agree with you, Geb. You're a smart and non-partisan guy; my Dad was non partisan politically his whole life. I loved my Dad, and while I don't quite love you (@irish is feverish over a future strikeout post here), I see many of your takes here as I heard a thousand of his rants decades ago. Yet, for Twitter users who were NOT allowed to use Twitter once their content fell out of favor, it is a form of free speech. It's mostly about Musk, but his ego serves a purpose to be sure. I understand why some folks hate the guy. His oldman made a fortune in blood diamonds and all that ... he's disingenuous almost in his tax bracket are .... I've taught millionaire's kids about a hundred times. Some were very Elon. But they all employed a shitload of people and many of those people sent their kids to the same school. Many of them shared the same classrooms and later, went to the same colleges. I neither love nor hate Elon. I do, however, like those who irritate the people who hate me most. And the Left hates me and mine, and Musk. So it's a bit of the old TEOMEIMF, I admit to that much. He is a bee in their progressive bonnets, and I'm enjoying that.
i don't think for a moment his ego isn't involved and yet no one else seems to have lifted a finger while every facet of information was shut down and censored if his ego helps us free the shackles of "misinformation" and "hate speech" then i'm in its not like there's some other choice
