You may suffer a few 100,000 years of firey torture for that when you expire, but it was damn brilliant.
This is today's podbean. I'll share it here first. I spoke it first, then transcribed it here, and I'll launch it in an hour. Sorry if it bums out the board ... One thing about dying ... it's expensive. I advise y'all prepay now and save everyone the pain later. My big sister died early Monday from long-term ill-health, heart disease, etc. She'd survived a stroke in 2004 that should've killed her but instead turned her into 30% of who she was before the stroke. It's been a mess for a long while. Her only daughter, my niece, was killed by a drunk driver four years ago. My sister has been the embodiment of Eleanor Rigby most of her life. All that's left is Fr. Mackenzie putting her in the ground in Kentucky in a few weeks. Now her troubles are over. Ours continue. I'll likely fly into OC soon to mop up the mess & settle my Mom down (or stress her out more - it's an even split). My big brother will help but he's in New Mexico with his family. He was the smart one - he got out of the state in 1994. We've been trying to get the two of them the hell out of California for a long time but they both intend to die there. So far, my sister got her wish. Mom is still rolling the dice daily. No will, no living trust, despite a paid-for house that she could sell and walk away a millionaire ... but no ... she plays the lotto twice a week like a mule when she's already living in the winning ticket. If she dies as she is, Newsom's California takes about 10% of that home's value and that's a conservative estimate. Add another two years of legal costs and that bites off another 40% or so. Give probate a look-see sometime. It's right up there with prison rape and root canals for hope & joy. Anyway ... that's my rant. Prepay your cremation or burial, folks. I'm telling you - it cost $300 for my Dad in 1995 and it'll cost $2K plus for my sister today. I'm not kidding - this death biz is a racket & if you leave this shit sandwich for your survivors, you're worse off for eternity. Rest in peace, my friends.
Thanks. Still haven't cried. Don't know how to feel yet. I know it'll come but I'm just weary of this process. I am the go-to guy in my clan for putting people in the ground. I should've been a mortician instead of a teacher.
wouldn’t suit you too many terrible people in that profession taking advantage of grieving people at their worst and most vulnerable time
Sorry to hear, both for your loss and for the burden you've assumed. Yes, our final expenses are something we each should arrange for, so that our loved ones don't have to deal with it while trying to navigate through difficult emotions.
Very sorry old friend. Finding it hard to believe your Mom isn't taking care of her business better. All due respect.....it's insane. Not that expensive to see to those things.
