it does matter. i find a lot of it fascinating and the history of what we have done to wolves and coyotes atrocious. in LA i have been witnessing coyotes calmly walking around in daytime hours more and more. they own this place. apparently they possess something wolves don't in their breeding cycles. provided that is what you were referring to haha
been watching this in pieces. saw him at a Burbank breakfast spot and Dana Gould came up to hang out w him and a couple of guys i didn't recognize. wanted to switch tables to sit near those guys.
That was fascinating to watch. The previous owner of our house told me he used to shoot the coyotes that came around, suggested I do the same. I guess he wanted to protect his cats. I actually like having them around. It's cool to hear their howls at night and I had assumed they were doing rodent control. I don't have cats and they've never bothered my chickens which I've secured pretty well. I guess they could go after our border collie but she's not usually out at night. Our biggest issue is gophers and ground squirrels. They're welcome to come feast on those little shits.
Orange County catches & spays/nueters 2000 cats a year... 4X a year, those 'fixed' pussies are released into three regions of the county - Disneyland neighborhood, Santa Ana hills, & Westminster. I know this for a fact because I spoke to the city council in Anaheim several times between 2013-2021. None of those neighborhoods are wealthy- they are pretty ghetto, actually. Hence the release - Richie Rich ain't gonna endure that shit. These cats were being "humanely" treated but in reality, those cats were food for coyotes in the county. I found three dozen cat carcasses over that span at one park (Barton, near our house there). Everywhere in the county ... yotes feasted on fixed felines. Animal control never gave a blue fuck for cats, dogs, or anything furry. They just served up felines like a Shakeys Bunch-a-Lunch ... fuck those people & the coyotes, too. They stalk small children as well as cats & smaller dogs. As for wolves, I can't speak to that. I've no knowledge of that breed.
apparently there's exactly one confirmed fatality of a child by coyote in the US. in 1981. imo if you leave your kid alone long enough for a coyote to stalk it maybe you should watch your children closer. back when i was working in the garage door industry 3 children died in a week being smashed under doors. it led to insane laws and product enhancements designed to keep a 500lb door from killing a crawling infant within 3" of the ground. who the fuck leaves a crawling infant in the garage? apparently 3 people in a week did once. seems to me coyotes are pretty awesome animals that will be here long after we're gone. hard to justify killing them off based on one instance. if you love your cat keep it inside w your small dogs. i keep my big dogs inside as well. those animals are here to stay like it or not.
